North Carolina State Wolf pack in 1965. Gamecock win 13-7. Went 5-5 for the season, a win over the Tatars 17-16!!

So, when was the first game you saw at W-B?

I can't remember the exact date or who the opponent was, but it was sometime around the mid 1970s, so I was around 10 yrs old or so. I remember standing on the steps halfways up the stands, and looking down the steps and thinking that it was so steep, that if I fell, I wouldn't stop rolling down the steps until I hit the bottom level. That was the first football stadium higher than high school I had ever been in, and it was amazing to me. I liked the game too, although I do remember that we lost. Perhaps that's why I don't remember the opponent...

I don’t remember when exactly, or who the opponent was, but I do remember it was sometime in the ‘80’s, and I went to the restroom, and as I came out, I came around the corner, and literally ran into Senator Thurmond.  I knocked him back a step, and he said “ Scuse me there, young man”.

Started selling drinks (Pepsi) every home game at 12 which was 1963.  Still remember hollering "pepsi, pepsi get your ice cold pepsi right here!!!!!!!!!!".

At 14 went to work 45 hours a week (soda jerk) full time. Gamecocks taught me a trade. (LOL) Worked till 17 then joined Marines.

The year was 2000. I just began my foray into the full-time college life after having completed a few classes at USC-Salkehatchie. I was in my room in Columbia Hall one Saturday evening when my neighbor came banging on my door. "Were you at the game?", he asks. "No, why? What happened?" I reply. He goes on to tell me that we won and that both of the goal posts were torn down after the game.

"Now that's a strange thing to do." was my thought. You see prior to that season I really did not watch football at all. I had no idea about the 21 game losing streak or anything about any team leading up to that night. So I did a little research to figure out what all the hoopla was about.

I had drill at my National Guard unit the following weekend when we played Georgia. That afternoon, a couple of the guys had the game on in one of the offices, so a bunch of us huddled around the TV to watch it. That was the Quincy Carter 5 interceptions game. The excitement of the game and the subsequent destruction of the goal posts that evening had me hooked. So when I returned to campus, I made it a point to seek out tickets to the following weekend's game which would be the first one I attended. 41-6 was the score against Eastern Michigan. All I really remember about that game was the intoxicating aura around the student section as we yelled and chanted. I needed more. The following weekend when "The Fade" occurred against Mississippi State, and I was there to witness it live and in the flesh.

So while my first game was not much to write home about. The events surrounding it were what I remember the most.
