South Carolina recruiting: 2019 QBs
Former South Carolina offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper had offers out to at least four quarterbacks from the Class of 2019.
Now that he’s a couple of days into the position, it still remains to be seen whether newly hired quarterbacks coach Dan Werner proceeds with recruiting those prospects, two of whom are from right up the road in North Carolina.
Garrett Shrader, a 3-star dual-threat prospect from Charlotte (N.C.) Christian, told SEC Country that running backs coach Bobby Bentley — his area recruiter — will bring Werner by his school in the not-too-distant future.
Though not confirmed, it makes sense that 4-star prospect Sam Howell, who’s classified as a pro-style passer, will soon have a face-to-face encounter with Werner. Howell is from Sun Valley High School in Monroe, N.C., which is just east of Charlotte.
Roper offered two 3-star pro-style passers: Ty Evans (Monument, Colo.) and Ryan Hilinski (Orange, Calif.). Evans, a former Arkansas commitment, is reportedly planning to visit South Carolina in January.
According to the 247Sports composite, Howell, Evans and Hilinski are rated as the No. 4, 9 and 11 pro-style passers, respectively, in the Class of 2019. Shrader is the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback.
Alabama offers
There’s no telling how much, if any, input Werner had on the 2019 quarterbacks offered by Alabama, where he previously served as an offensive analyst. But the Tide have offered Shrader, the only signal caller from that class who was also offered by Roper while he was still with the Gamecocks.
A quick rundown of the other non-committed 2019 quarterbacks with offers from Alabama. If there’s any familiarity, we could see these names popping up with South Carolina offers:
