Who’s left for February?
December 21, 2017
Committed, but unsigned
With 20 signees on board for the 2018 class, Will Muschamp has five spots to work with before the Gamecocks reach the first Wednesday in February.
Four commitments from the haul did not ink during the early signing period, though none were surprises: Bryce Thompson, Ronnie Jamison, Marlon Character Jr. and LaMarius Benson weren’t expected to officially jump on board with South Carolina.
Thompson, a 3-star athlete from Dutch Fork High School (Irmo, S.C.), had some academic work to do before his commitment was accepted. Four-star cornerback Character (Atlanta) and 3-star receiver Jamison (Irmo, S.C.) are both in junior college. Three-star defensive tackle Benson, who’s on board as an offensive guard, is from Covington, Ga.
Obviously, it remains to be seen how many of the four will still be in the class once February arrives.
Unsigned, not committed
Four-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge (Concord, N.C.) and 4-star offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum (Tucker, Ga.) are the top-ranked uncommitted targets on the Gamecocks’ 2018 board.
Three-star Tennessee defensive end Dorian Gerald, a JUCO prospect who’s originally from Florence, S.C., has left the door open, as well.
Unsigned, but committed
Four-star linebacker Channing Tindall (Columbia, S.C.) committed to Georgia on Wednesday night, but has elected not to sign until February. That leaves the door open for South Carolina to host him for an official visit in January.
The Gamecocks have already had 4-star Florida State cornerback commit Asante Samuel in for an official visit. Like Tindall, he’s committed to another university, but unsigned.
Muschamp mentioned on his call-in show on Wednesday that South Carolina’s board could expand once the dust settles on the early signing period, so more names could emerge in the next few weeks.
