Keveon Mullins
4 star WR Keveon Mullins 6'4" 205lbs of Memphis, who at first planned to announce his commitment decision Wednesday at the Rivals event in Atlanta but later said he would wait until he and his mom could visit USC, changed paths again Thursday and announced a commitment to the Gamecocks over Memphis. Georgia and Louisville were two others he strongly considered.
Mullins camped with the Gamecocks two weeks ago and worked out in front of head coach Will Muschamp and receivers coach Bryan McClendon. That interaction was part of the reason he chose the Gamecocks.
“I just liked the way Coach B-Mac does things and the way he coaches,” Mullins said. “I liked the way he would put me thru the drill. He was different from other receiver coaches that’s been recruiting me. And Coach Muschamp, he’s a very good guy.”
On that visit Mullins got the chance to interact with other coaches and some players, plus he got a look at the campus and football facilities. It all added up to what he was looking for in a college and a football program.
“I love the coaches and how they said they would use me,” he said. “There’s one thing I like about it, that they have a lot of receivers and start as freshmen. That’s something I would like to do, go in and plays as a freshman. And I love that my position coach is the offensive coordinator and he calls the plays. That’s a good thing, that your position coach calls plays.”
Mullins caught 52 passes for 1011 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. At 6-2 and 200 pounds, Mullins said the coach love his physical presence.
“Me having a nice body, a big size, me being a big receiver,” he said. “They also like the way I return kicks, being a kick returner. I like the way (Muschamp) does things. I like the way he coaches. I liked the way he worked me out and put me thru drills. I learned a couple of things from them and the things I learned, I like what I learned.”
Mullins gives the Gamecocks 17 commitments for the 2018 class, including transfer defensive lineman Josh Belk, and he’s the second receiver in the class.
