Wide receiver Jay Urich making his case to be in the rotation for 2019

August 23, 2019

Jay Urich has been throwing to receivers for a few years before the choice was made to move the third-year Gamecock football player from quarterback to receiver. But that doesn’t mean he is too green to play a role in the Gamecocks’ offense this year. (VIEW ARTICLE)

Wow! Go get em Jay.

With his size, could he play TE?

I still wish he was given a full opportunity to be the #2, but excited to see what he can do as a receiver as well.

6'-5" and 210#. Not big enough to do much blocking but with his height and speed he is going to be a great receiver.

I went and looked at his Sr video and he is really fast when he ran the ball.

I think he will be the kind of receiver ww were hoping to get in Ortre Smith. Who has been too injured to play to date.

Urich is reportedly one of the most athletic players on the team, so hopefully he can make a mark at WR. We may end up having a deep depth chart at the position this season, with Edwards and Shi Smith the mainstays, and Vann stepping up. We got a lot of returning depth with OrTre, Davis, Terrill, and Dawkins. At various times I've heard good things about the incoming freshman Tyquan Johnson, Xavier Leggett, and Keveon Mullins, who was a 4* prospect after all.

Usually a solid receiving corps will consist of 6-7 WRs at the minimum - we'll have 11 WRs to work from, but should have a strong passing offense like we had last season. Hopefully Jay will get his touches....
