Will Muschamp calls out rival programs for negative-recruiting against South Carolina

Dec. 18, 2019

According to coaches around the country, they never negatively recruit other programs, but several other programs negatively recruit them.

On Wednesday, it was South Carolina coach Will Muschamp’s turn to play the negativity card, and he did it well.

During his Early Signing Period press conference on Wednesday, Muschamp seemed to call out rival programs like Clemson and Georgia for negatively recruiting the Gamecocks after a 4-8 season:

“When you don’t have the year you want to have, you deal with a lot on the recruiting trail,” he said. “About 90% of it is not true from some of our lovely competitors.”

The best revenge would be to beat them Coach.
Exactly! ...just saying 4-8 is negative.

Regardless....give Will credit for his recruiting. Not sure many coaches could scrap together what's happened today with a 4-8 record and being on the hot seat.

If the new coaches can make a difference on the field, Muschamp could become one of the best coaches we ever had here. Who else had an awful year and still brought in such good talent. I surely like his recruiting. Just hope the team can start winning like they should.

Could be. I mean in light of the circumstances, the best we could have hoped for was a change-up in some assistants and a solid recruiting class. That is precisely what we have. Whether that all pans out the way we would like remains to be seen, but at least something has been done to hopefully correct our prior shortcomings.

He also called out the school leadership (Pres and BOT) a little there talking about the negativity “on campus” too, didn’t he?  Good for him, it needed to be said.

This is probably his best overall class.  If you believe a program is built around its QB and Dline then this is a good day to be a gamecock.  Added bonus, two 340+ pound OLinemen.  Marshawn Lloyd is a happy RB today.

It really seems Boom knows what he’s doing on the recruiting trail.  He knows what he wants, he’s keen on measurables, and he wins the recruiting battles he should win and probably some he shouldn’t.  Listening to him talk about recruits is impressive.  Listening to Burch talk about Champ today was impressive too.

Its clear Muschamp is a good coach.  I hope Bobo is the answer to the offensive woes that have dogged him his entire career because it would be a shame to see a guy, that could be so good, fail.

Well there's plenty created by Caslen, Tanner and 4-8 to give them ammo.  I wonder is he being overly sensitive to it in light of all the talk about buyouts and coaching changes or did something much worse than the typical negative recruiting take place.
