Will Muschamp, Gamecocks coaches have presence at state title games

Extra day of workEvery member of the South Carolina coaching staff was spotted at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, as they took in the state high school football championship games.
Coach Will Muschamp posted up on the visitor’s sideline during the 4A game. Just a few feet away was Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott.
Among the players on that South Pointe sideline were some of the state’s best 2018 prospects, including 4-star wide receiver Derion Kendrick, 3-star cornerback Steven Gilmore Jr., linebacker Eli Adams and kicker B.T. Potter.
The Rock Hill high school rolled past Hartsville, 51-28.
Kendrick passed for 261 yards and rushed for 42 more. He also threw 5 touchdown passes, 3 of which were to Gilmore, who totaled 135 yards.
D.K. No. 1With his transfer to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Xavier Thomas is no longer the top overall prospect from the state of South Carolina. That honor now goes to Kendrick, though some would say he already was, even with Thomas still at Wilson High School in Florence.
South Carolina has work to do for Kendrick, who is trending toward Clemson. In fact, word out of Tigertown is that he and Jordyn Adams are looking more and more like Clemson’s two wide receiver takes in 2018.
No Clemson for JoynerOn Saturday, 4-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner told The Clemson Insider that Clemson was no longer in the running for his commitment. The Fort Dorchester (North Charleston, S.C.) High School junior went on the record with the decision just days after Clemson landed a commitment from 5-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
“As much as I love Clemson University and I would love to be a part of a great organization, I won’t be attending Clemson. They are out of my top 5,” Joyner said.

One would have to imagine that South Carolina and Clemson are chief among the possibilities. Florida and Georgia also have entered the picture.
South Carolina hosted him on campus several times this fall.
“We talked about coming to a basketball game, to visit then,” he said. “I’m going to come to camp over the summer. … I’ll definitely be back for a game visit.”
At the camp, Potter will learn if the Gamecocks coaches believe he is offer-worthy.
Adams already has netted his offer from South Carolina. He visited for two games this fall: ECU and Tennessee.
“The coaches, the atmosphere, everybody — it’s a home feeling. It’s family down here,” he said.
Georgia, Florida and Vanderbilt are also in touch.
