Will Muschamp says South Carolina RB Rico Dowdle has fractured fibula
October 14, 2017
South Carolina is celebrating a win at Neyland Stadium on Saturday, but it is not all good news for the Gamecocks. Running back Rico Dowdle is expected to miss an extended period of time as the result of a fractured fibula suffered during the game on Saturday.
It’s the same injury that has stricken fellow South Carolina stars Deebo Samuel and K.C. Crosby this season.
Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp confirmed what many feared after seeing Dowdle with his leg wrapped on the sideline during the second half of the 15-9 win in Knoxville.
“Rico will be done for an extended period of time,” Muschamp told SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan during his post-game press appearance. “I hate that for him.”
Dowdle had four carries for 19 yards prior to his departure. A.J. Turner rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown to lead South Carolina on the day.
South Carolina moved to 5-2 as a result of the big road conference win and could be well on their way to a special season in Year 2 of the Muschamp regime. But with the loss of star players like Samuel and Dowdle, Gamecocks fans may be left wondering what might have been with a healthy group on the offensive side of the ball.
