Will the Gamecocks make offensive coaching changes?  Muschamp says no!!

Nov. 11, 2019, GCF Staff Report

Yes this is only year two of the Bryan McClendon era for the Gamecock offense to say it lightly, hasn’t gone well so far. The question calls out, Will there be change? Muschamp says No but fans want a change. Here is a look at the latest ranking of an McClendon lead offense. (VIEW ARTICLE)

I would not expect him to say anything different while in season. If at the end of the year he wants to sink with that ship, then so be it.

Me either. Would be the death blow for the remaining 2 games.  Just have to wait a few weeks.

Yeah...I am not sure what others expect him to say, but I fully expected him to say nothing publicly about whether we are looking at coaching changes. Still two games left and three total weeks. We might hear soon "well we will review the season after the season is over and make changes if we feel we need to"

What is puzzling to me is that Werner is a respected OC.  Bentley is known for his offensive ability as a coach, but we just cannot get any flow on offense. I really thought bringing Werner in was going to be a great move and would help McClendon with his learning process.  As much of a stat guy and micro-manager as Muschamp is, I have to wonder if he is not sticking his nose in some of it.  He can spit out percentages on just about every type of play on the field, but percentages and flow do not line up when in the thick of things.  It just feels to me like something else is in play when it comes to what plays we are calling and when we are calling them.

I agree.  He may not be a very good HC but he definitely knows what isn't working.   Even if he acknowledges he has to make changes, does he have the ability to go make the right ones?  Would any coaches if available be interested in coming here for what appears to be a short stint?

He says no changes "right now". After the seasons over he will have to make changes. I think otherwise he is going to lose his job. I don't think he will go down with the ship but stranger things have happened.

i was still holding out hope that bmac could somehow turn it around to end the season but after app state obviously were toast.  as disappointed as i am with the playcalling vs app state, at this point im not sure it makes any difference who the playcaller is with our inconsistency, lack of playmakers, and lack of discipline that continually leaves us behind the chains.

the problem with keeping muschamp beyond this year and letting him hire a new oc is i dont think this offense is a 1 year fix especially with a qb who cant run and a questionable receiving core.

I thought Will grew an inch when he fired Roper before the end of the season that year.

Realistically, Will can't make a change like he did with Roper because there presumably wouldn't be anyone on the current staff to be the interim OC.

Will man's up during the PG pressers and doesn't throw his players or his assistants under the bus, but that doesn't mean he wasn't pissed about the UVA loss last year and the UT and ASU losses this year.

He still has to hold his staff and players together until the end of the season.

Having said that, though, he might be provoked to fire BMac and move Werner to interim OC if we tank offensively in the TAMU game.  That would give us some hope going into the Clemson game, because it's not there for me right now.

Making Werner the interim OC would keep things comfortable and familiar to Hilinski for the Clemson game.

The moon is cheese, man, I don't know.

I am just glad basketball season has started right now.

How hard would it really be to find an acting OC until one is hired?  Any of us would do no worse than what is currently being done!  Hell, I'll do it for free.  There, problem solved.  I'm sure I can come up with some really good plays to call right after I finish up my tail- gaiting responsibilities.

With our luck he will put Bentley in the spot for the next two games and he will show some sort of positive, but not enough to win either game and he will be our OC next year lol.  I say leave McClendon at this point and his removal at the end of the year will not be avoidable.

The team proved it had enough talent to play with a top tier team when they beat Georgia but being able to compete consistently is about attitude. The Staff and Coaches have to bring it first for it to become contagious. At some point someone has to get in somebody’s face and explain the rules to wining. It all starts with the AD and works it’s way down. Safe spaces and support dogs don’t create winners. I’m in no way a Clemson fan but Dani will crawl some butt when needed and make you ride the bus home if needed. How come you never see our coach call a player or assistant coach out?

This officially removes you from being taken seriously but it was fun while it lasted.
