Williams puts Gamecocks in top spot after weekend visit

SPORTSTALK / April 18, 2023

1681852989892.pngUSC is looking for four offensive linemen for their 2024 class. Three are committed…Blake Franks, Kam Pringle and Josiah Thompson. The fourth target is Mike Wiliams (6-7 315) of Upper Marlboro, MD. He was back for another visit last weekend for the spring game, and right how he’s the Gamecocks to lose.

“Four schools I’m looking at now, Virgina Tech, Michigan State, South Carolina and Tennessee,” Williams said. “Right now, South Carolina is in the lead.”

Williams visited USC for a junior day in January. He also visited last spring. This last visit gave him the chance to get a feel for a game atmosphere at Wiliams-Brice Stadium and to meet up with some of his potential future teammates.

“My visit was great,” Williams said. “They treat you like family. I got to meet some guys, Josiah (Thompson), Kam Pringle, Blake (Franks). Overall, it was a great trip. I was told there were only four linemen in this 2024 class being recruited, that would be Josiah, Kam Pringle, Blake and me. They’re telling me I’m the last piece to add to the wall of Carolina they’ve got going on.”

Williams added that what he experienced in and around the stadium on Saturday left a lasting impression.

“I think South Carolina has the best fans possible if you ask me,” Williams said. “I was sitting int he stands with the DMV guys and the fans recognized us. The South Carolina fans show mad love.”

Williams has reshuffled his official visits schedule for June. He will start off with Maryland the first weekend and proceed to Michigan State, Virginia Tech and USC the following three weekends. He has visited all of those schools, as well as Tennessee, this spring. He plans to make his decision not long after the last official visit to USC.
