With the new open scholarship, South Carolina basketball offers a highly-rated in-state recruit

March 31, 2019

An opening on South Caroina’s basketball roster for the 2020 season was created earlier in the week when center Jason Cudd decided to transfer. USC coach Frank Martin moved quickly to attempt to fill that spot by inviting 6-foot-8 Jalyn McCreary of Legacy Charter in Greenville in for an official visit over the weekend. McCreary has been a fast riser in basketball recruiting circles, and the native of Acworth, Ga., can now add the Gamecocks to his offer list.

“Yes, they offered and I loved it” McCreary said. “The facility and how the coaches show love (stood out). And the players are really cool.”

The visit has McCreary thinking about the Gamecocks but he’s yet to render a decision.

“Not yet,” he said. “Still thinking.”

McCreary also has taken official visits to South Florida and DePaul. He also has offers from Xavier, Charlotte, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Murray State and Georgia Southern.

According to MaxPreps, McCreary averaged over 18 points and six rebounds per game this season.

Small school offers, but you have to trust Coach Martin.

Ok, will trust him once again, hope he will get things right with recruiting

McCreary, in his profiles, reminds me a bit of Keyshawn Bryant.  He's athletic, with quick moves to the basket.  Good rebounder, good defensive player.  Needs to work on his jumpshot, and needs to improve at the FT line.  But would be a solid grab for Coach Martin.
