4-star DT Rick Sandidge talks Gamecocks
Feb. 07, 2018
CONCORD, N.C. – Rick Sandidge made up his mind on Monday: South Carolina would be the next stop for the 4-star defensive tackle.
The decision was announced on Wednesday afternoon, before a large gathering of friends and family at Concord (N.C.) High School on National Signing Day.
“I’m just happy to be over the stress,” Sandidge told reporters. “You just don’t know how relaxed I am right now. But then, when you think about it, I’ve got to go to college and put in more work, so I’m going to have the stress coming back.
“I’m just glad that I’ve got it over with.”
Several factors went into the decision by Sandidge, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 1 prospect in the Gamecocks class. But one, in particular, helped him reach the conclusion.
“I just feel at home,” Sandidge said.
He added, “Getting to play early, just having that good connection with the coaches and the players. It was a hard decision, because all three schools provided that. It was just a gut feeling.”
What kind of player can Gamecock fans expect him to be?
“Play hard, really. On the field, I’m going to give it my all,” Sandidge said. “No plays off.”
