Wonnum and Charlton Earn SEC Honors
9/30/2019 | Football

University of South Carolina defensive end D.J. Wonnum was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week and punter Joseph Charlton was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, the Southeastern Conference announced today. Both players were honored for their performances in the Gamecocks' convincing 24-7 win over Kentucky last Saturday night. (VIEW ARTICLE)

Charlton has been a beast!  He has been a bright spot this season.
I knew he was consistent with his punting but didn't know he was quite as good as 2nd in the conference. Wonnum has impressed me this season. The defensive front has congealed nicely!

Wonnum was a terror and took over that game. Was a pleasure to watch.

Charlton was kicking these soaring majestic punts into the stratosphere. If only our coverage would get their asses down to the goal line, stats would have been even better.

Congrats guys, well deserved!

Glad to see DJ Wonnum getting some praise on the field.  I know that he and Kinlaw get a lot of double-teaming and it wears them down by the 3rd quarter.  When other guys step up their game it really makes the double-teaming go away.  Charlton is a heckuva punter and how many times over the years have we not all seen a game won by the team with the best punter keeping the other team penned up deep in their side for much of the game.  A great punter and FG kicker are just absolutes on a winning team.  So, proud of these Fighting Gamecocks!!!
