WR Cavin Ridley of Deerfield Beach, FL was back at USC this weekend for an official visit and a chance to get to know new Gamecock coach Will Muschamp.  Ridley was recruited by the previous Gamecock staff and attended a camp last summer.  He was one of the first out of state players contacted by Muschamp last week when he came on board and the message was there is a place for him at USC.

“I liked it a lot, it was cool and a nice environment,” Ridley said.  “The new stuff that’s being built around the school and the new staff that they’ve got coming in, this could be turning South Carolina around.  They are trying to turn it around and that really caught my eye.”

Ridley said he spent most of his time with Muschamp and Travaris Robinson and they outlined for him how they see him fitting in the program.

“They told me if I come up there, they know I’m a big time player and they don’t want their big time players on the sidelines,” Ridley said.  “They want their big time players to be in the game.  They don’t want them out there just blocking.  They want them interacting in the plays and getting the ball and moving it up and down the field.”

Ridley had Chris Lammons as his player host for the weekend and he also spent a good deal of time with quarterback Brandon McIlwain.

As for what’s next with his decision making process, Ridley said he’ll wait until the Under Armour All American Game to make his announce between USC, Alabama and Tennessee.

“South Carolina really impressed me,” he said, “but I don’t really have a favorite right now.  I really like them though.”  As for what he’ll base his decision on, Ridley said, “Playing time and just a better environment.  I nice environment that fits me and where I can live.”

Ridley’s brother is a standout receiver at Alabama so there’s the natural connection there for him but while his brother will offer some advice, Ridley said he’ll leave it up to him to make his own decision
