WR Da’Quon Stewart of Huntersville, NC was one of the early members of the 2020 recruiting class for USC making his pledge on January 19th.  He has held firm to that promise since then despite offers from West Virginia and Syracuse among others.  Stewart last visited USC for a junior day in January and he will return this weekend for the spring game.  And all looks good between him and the Gamecocks.

“I know where home is at,” Stewart said. “Getting the offers are blessings. South Carolina was the first to offer me. Loyalty is a strong word and I want to be loyal to them. The only way I would decommit is if anything goes bad at the school, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.”

Will Muschamp and his assistants apparently are taking nothing for granted with Stewart.  He said he gets daily reminders of their fondness for him.

“Coach Muschamp hits me up everyday,” Stewart said. “There’s only so much they can say but they send me a picture, a video, everything about the school every day. Coach (Bobby) Bentley texts me, coach BMac (Bryan McClendon), they stay in touch. They text me every day.”

West Virginia, with new receivers coach Xavier Dye, has been making a hard push for Stewart and he said he might visit there at some point.

“Coach Dye told me, ‘I know you committed, but if you want to decommit, you know you’ve got a spot here.’ He’s not trying to shake up anything, trying to interfere. But if I decommit, I’ve got a spot there,” said Stewart who also might visit Syracuse this spring or summer.

But, any of that flirtation, he said, won’t affect his commitment strength to the Gamecocks.

“It’s a10,” he said.  “Strongly committed.”
