WR Elijah Caldwell Is Ready For Official Visit To USC This Weekend Gamecocks

SPORTSTALK / January 20, 2023

Caldwell decommitted from West Virginia December 19th and after that USC receivers coach Justin Stepp became more involved. Last week Stepp and new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains went by to see Caldwell at his school, and Stepp made another appearance earlier this week.

“I like him. He’s a good person,” Caldwell said of Loggains. “We talked some football but we talked a lot about being a person really. And me and Coach Stepp got a good relationship. We’re just getting to know each other better.”

The two Gamecock coaches have described for Caldwell how he would be used in their offense, and he’s fine with what he’s heard and understands the offense doesn’t have to be about him.

“I’m the top of guy that feels I can plan in any type of offense,” Caldwell said. “If we’re running the ball I can block, and if we’re throwing the ball I can catch. I’m that type of teammate. I’m not that worried about getting the ball all the time. I like the way they say they can use me. It’s a good offense.”

Caldwell took an official visit to NC State last weekend and enjoyed his time in Raleigh. This weekend’s visit will give him the chance to compare the Gamecocks and Wolfpack and move on to his decision which he hopes to make prior to the February signing day.

“I just need to visit South Carolina and after that I’ll start talking to my family and we’ll start making a decision really,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell was selected for the Shrine Bowl and caught four passes in that game. For the season he caught 77 passes for 1365 yards and 20 touchdowns.
