Former Brookland-Cayce High School standout WR Jonathan Rumph (6-5 215) has emerged as a major recruit as he heads into his second season at Holmes JC, MS. Rumph holds offers from USC, Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Nebraska, Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas and Iowa State. “I’m staying humble,” Rumph said. “There’s still a lot of work I’ve got to do.” Rumph visited USC a couple of weekends ago and picked up an offer from receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. “He showed me everything and sat me down and explained everything they are trying to do,” Rumph said. “He said he wants me to be a part of what they have. Coming out of high school, I didn’t’ have a lot of offers. Not getting an offer from them was like, wow, I’m like five minutes away. But it was kind of my fault too because I didn’t take care of my grades.” Now that he has plenty of offers to sift thru, Rumph says he’s not going to rush a decision. “I’m soaking it all in trying to make the best decision for me,” he said. “I’m doing research on all the schools. I’m trying to narrow down to schools that throw the ball and put guys in the NFL.” Rumph has also been to Mississippi State and LSU and will take more visits but none have been planned. And he does not have a timetable for a decision. Last season Rumph had 42 catches for 778 yards and 4 touchdowns. link: http://www.goupstate.com/article/20120613/PSPORTS02/120619828/-1/PSPORTS
