Gamecocks travel to Athens this week to face off with the two-time defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs in what may be the last time these two rivals face off for several years. The SEC is removing divisions starting in 2024 when Texas and Oklahoma join the conference. Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer updated injuries for the week, stating: “Everybody is questionable. Pretty much anybody you would ask me about would be questionable. They all did a little bit in practice today except Ahmarean Brown.”

The common theme amongst questions to both players and Coach Beamer was how big of an annual game this has always been for the Gamecock fanbase, the players, and onlooking prospective recruits. This is also the first conference game of the year, and older players were asked how they’re helping younger guys prepare, while young players were asked how the veterans are helping them, etc. Everybody understands how talented Georgia is, but the Gamecock players all shared the mindset of going into this game confident in their own abilities, as opposed to being intimidated by Georgia’s recent accomplishments.

Georgia has opened its season with two blowout wins over inferior competition by a combined score of 93-7, but its relatively young secondary has not faced an aerial attack like they’ll face this week from Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks. Rattler has dazzled thus far through the air, passing for a combined 55-66 for 698 yards through two games. Gamecocks rebounded from a disappointing opening loss to UNC with an impressive 47-21 victory over in-state foe Furman this past weekend. Kickoff this Saturday between the Bulldogs and Gamecocks is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
