Some coaches live to be behind the microphone, while others are afraid to say anything that could be turned into motivation for their opponent. USC special teams coordinator Pete Lembo falls into the first category. Lembo, who could easily have been a stand-up comedian at your favorite nightclub, was behind the microphone on Wednesday, along with offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains and defensive boss Clayton White to preview next Saturday’s season opener.

Lembo spent his opening statement elaborating on a summer that included taking his daughter on a few college visits, his first-ever experience with jury duty, and spending a little leisure time reading a book on the 1975 Cincinnati Reds, all of that before breaking down the progress of his unit, which has turned into one of the nation’s elite groups.

Serving as the warm-up act to Lembo’s routine were Loggains and White, who set the stage for both the offensive and defensive units heading into next weekend’s matchup with UNC in Charlotte.
