Post-game injury report vs. Vanderbilt David Spaulding is out for the season Lloyd should be back for Florida
Nov. 05, 2022

South Carolina will likely be down a key defensive back likely for the rest of the season. Head coach Shane Beamer, speaking after Carolinas 38-27 win Saturday over Vanderbilt, said that David Spaulding is “probably” going to miss the rest of the 2022 campaign. Spaulding missed time earlier this year and, per Beamer, is dealing with a similar foot injury that slowed running back Christian Beal-Smith earlier this year. The redshirt junior corner has played in four games this season with two starts.

Beamer sounded somewhat optimistic that starting running back MarShawn Lloyd will be healthy enough to return for the Gamecocks’ road trip to face Florida. Lloyd did not travel to Vanderbilt because of a thigh contusion suffered in last week’s loss to Missouri. “I hope so,” Beamer said. “That bruise was pretty significant he had on his leg. We’re optimistic and anticipate him being back next week.”

No other injuries were reported from Saturday night’s game, though Beamer did indicate that starting corner Cam Smith was not feeling well.
