Post Game thoughts vs. North Carolina
Sept. 03, 2023

I know Gamecock fans do not want to hear this and I was surely hoping to have egg on my face but, well let me say that the game last night went how I thought and felt would happen GCF North Carolina vs. South Carolina Prediction, Picks, and Game Preview - 09/02/2023. Looking back at critical losses per the portal or the way of the NFL, a new OC that was voted the worst NFL OC for his tenure in the NFL and the Arkansas offensive play from last year helped guide me to my decision on how the game could unfold.

Who gets the blame starting with the offense, everyone? With all your tight ends gone and all your running backs gone, add in a player starting at running back who has not played the position since his arrival at South Carolina then add a very small running back as your backup spells disaster. The offense just relying on the passing game makes it easy for any defense to pin their ears back and very bad things happen. Yes of course the offensive did look shotty last night but being one-dimensional helped lead to a very poor showing in the trenches. In closing the book on the offensive play if only the Gamecocks could have kept Lloyd or landed per portal a runningback of high quality and added a second back of size would have helped the team tremendously.

Now let us turn and look at the defense play from last night. Basically the same replies here as well very young and thin along the front and a rebuilt secondary going against one of the better quarterbacks in the nation, The Media talking about a Heisman candidate here but lots of games left before that image comes about.

The staff has a lot of fixing here on both sides of the ball this is a setback and it can have an extremely negative effect on the team and fans. Good news here just the first game and 11 more to go in the regular season. Going to need changes here especially on the offense side. Gamecocks will have to do some looking at the players they have at running back and hopefully, they can find one or two that can help the running attack. The portal does not open in time to get any help from the outside for the 2023 season. Receivers have to have more targets and they do but unproven but talented. Offensive just needs time and more devious meaning a much-needed running game to help ease the burden here.

Both sides need time to be cohesive here. Furman up next, is a blessing, and a win always gives the team and fans hope. After that here comes Georgia, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. looking at the first 4 games here I do see a split. The best possibility 2-2 was in hopes for 3-1, and worst case 1-3 which would put the team in the dog house for most Gamecock fans. Definitely looking at a losing season if that unfolds. Some words of advice are fitting here. “It's never as good as it looks and it's never as bad as it seems.”
