MBB roster gaps to fill next season

Yeah Coach Martin never brought in known players like Seventh Woods or AJ Lawson or Trea Hannibal or Jermaine Couisnard or Sin Thornwell or Justin Mckie or PJ Dozier or Duane Notice... He was not all over GG Jackson... He is not our coach anymore and he didn't take us to a Final Four or win the only NCAA Tourney game in my lifetime so let's belittle him and act like he accomplished nothing and this season was was better than anything the last coach ever did, like they never had talent or won anything... One of the players he brought and left when he left sent us home, put up 40 on us but we were void of talent...

Coach Paris is doing a great job and I hope he far and away exceeds Coach Martin's accomplishments!!! Getting Butler, Pringle and Scott should give us a great foundation to do just that with CMB, Stute, Wright and the freshmen coming in.... GO COCKS!

Martin can't even win with UMass

It seems like the portal has created a different type of "one and done" player; changes schools every year instead of going to the NBA.

just awful. I guess I am rooting for Duke as they are the closest to a homegrown team

He took us to a Final Four, who else has done that, who else has won an NCAA Tourney game in your lifetime that is still alive? 🙄

He’s a bad coach plain and simple, about to be fired from UMass soon. Yeah he had 1 fluky year here and sucked every other year

The greatest year in our history was a fluk...with fans like you who needs taters 🙄

They were a 7 seed that went on a run. It’s not like they were one of the best teams in the nation. And then that was it, Martin sucked before and after. So yeah it was fluky

Well if we let him have a fluk season every 4 to 5 years he would be our best coach by far tater... I'm sure Dozier and Thornwell think it was a fluk everytime it is bought up... 🙄 Who won more games as a coach at South Carolina than the coach that took us to the Final Four and how many postseason wins does that coach have... Since letting Coach Martin go how 🤔 much better has the program become since he sucked 😅🤣😂

Um...IIRC he was also 2 - 7 against the taters which is unacceptable.

Meh...he went to the big dance what....once in 10 years?
Meh, he obviously should have gotten the invite the year before and we hadn't been in 13 years much less won an NCAA game in over 40 but don't let details get in your way 🙄 I mean if you can fluk your way to the Final Four after 40 years of NOTHING, it will not take 40 more of firing and hiring as it can't be that hard lol

So once every ten years is good in your opinion?

Losing record at UMass. Worshipped here. So weird
Well, that’s not exactly true… he’s sitting at 47-47 in three seasons there.

But to set the record straight, he won at least 20 games (really 21) in EVERY season of his 5 at K-State. He was Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2010, and won the Phelan award in 2017. The guy is a good coach, period. His peers think the world of him. And his players are loyal to him to this day (I know a bunch of them personally, both Gamecocks AND some K-State guys, so I can say that with certainty).

AND at South Carolina he had winning records in 6 of his 10 seasons here, with one season, in addition, at exactly .500.

Martin’s biggest enemy has been that he doesn’t win enough IN CONFERENCE at each stop, including UMass. He pulls out some big-time OOC wins every year, and usually has 2-3 big, flashy CONFERENCE wins annually, but mostly ends at less than .500 in conference (with K-State bring the exception to the rule).

Can we let this back and forth die now?

We know you don’t like Martin, and we know that your “opponent” in this debate does. I was a big fan while he was here, but he’s no longer coaching at USC. His record speaks to everyone a little differently, including the AD here who hired him, and his AD who fired him. It’s time to move on and be Gamecock MBB FANS.

I don’t like the DH (I can’t even say his name) era, but I don’t dwell on those damaging years. You can continue to speak your mind… that’s fine. It’s your right to express yourself in this country of ours. But it sure doesn’t have good optics in this forum.

Nah I can't continue to speak my mind actually! my posts are getting deleted and my threads locked.

good post though even if I disagree with some of it

Frank was a good coach at times and others not very consistent. The F4 fun was a fluke, history proves that. I don’t think he should have been fired given the timing of things, but mostly because I had no confidence in the AD or the school being able to upgrade to the point we are consistently relevant. We don’t have a basketball ‘program’. Just a constant state of flux from mediocre to bad to new coach. An occasional run but mostly bad teams.

How did, does history prove that? If Martin has talent, he wins games in the tourney is what history shows!

When you haven't been in 13 years and won a tourney game in 40... you tell me.

Never before nor nothing close after prove it. It was great, but it was an obvious fluke season. Sure, he wins with talent, which is what a coach is responsible for recruiting and developing. He didn’t and lost all momentum which was very unfortunate because I liked him and wanted him to be here a long time. Not beating up on Frank, it was just too much to ask for him to make USC a consistent tourney team. Just as it has been for every other coach, Lamont included. I didn’t want Frank fired tho. Just have to accept who USC is and not impose such lofty expectations on the coach. We can only hope for the occasional fluke runs and enjoy them when they happen.

Well, my comments about Lamont setting his sights on the SEC Championship this year really aged well, didn't they?
