Rico Dowdle is quickly becoming a surprise superstar for the Carolina Panthers

Dowdle is demolishing the Cowboys and playing at a level the Panthers haven't had at running back since the Christian McCaffrey trade.

you could see he was a special back from his first game action here. there were times early in his nfl career you couldnt see this breakout coming. 7 carries his first 3 years. became the primary backup in 2023 and was solid but didnt necessarily scream that he should be starting. starts the next season but only gets more than 12 carries in once of the cowboys first 8 games, so once again that doubt starts to creep in. then he starts getting more consistent carries over the 2nd half of the season and has a 3 game streak of 100 yds rushing and 4 out of 5 over 100 yds rushing looking like a pro bowl back at the end of the season.

then he signs with the panthers and the start of the season makes you think it was a bad decision. doesnt start and 3 carries, 6 carries, 10 carries, and 9 carries the first 4 games of the season with a high of 32 yards rushing. the panthers starting rb chuba hubbard gets injured so rico starts, they feed him the ball and he explodes.

rico has 200+ yards from scrimmage the last 2 games. the last time a player did it 2 straight weeks was 2020. this year the rest of the league combined has only one 200 yard scrimmage game. only 26 times in nfl history has a player had at least 2 straight games of 200 scrimmage yards. only 2 players in nfl history have had 3 straight 200 yard scrimmage games which is the record held by walter payton and leveon bell.
