Obviously, Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher has a massive buyout, coming in at over $68 million. Here’s where the other SEC coaches stand in terms of their buyout figures:

Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M — $68,125,000

Nick Saban, Alabama — $33,600,000

Gus Malzahn, Auburn — $32,143,750

Kirby Smart, Georgia — $27,917,500

Will Muschamp, South Carolina — $18,650,000

Mark Stoops, Kentucky — $15,625,000

Chad Morris, Arkansas — $12,500,000

Dan Mullen, Florida — $12,000,000

Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee — $11,780,000

Ed Orgeron, LSU — $5,291,667

Barry Odom, Mizzou — $1,912,500

Matt Luke, Ole Miss — $0

Joe Moorhead, Mississippi State — $0

Derek Mason, Vanderbilt — Unknown

Gamecocks are 5th highest with 2 a 0 amount...

Ed Orgeron, LSU — $5,291,667 this is a shocker!!!

After seeing the list boggles my mind why 20M for a 9-3 season just one. Is the program that desperate here thinking someone would grab Boom up. Especially with the Florida outcome, that was not pretty say the least.

I did know you could have a contract these days without some kind of buy out.

I don't know anything for sure, but I imagine it was sold as a recruiting tactic. With Muschamp's already shaky reputation, having years on his contract and a hefty buyout would show coaching stability. Regardless though, such a large one for essentially an unknown commodity was foolish. I mean did anyone really expect that Muschamp would get pissy and quit? Or that some other school would try to pry him away? Not likely. That was just poor negotiation on Tanner's part.

Yeah, it was a bad decision.  You do that to add security for the program as one thing and the other is to make it harder for another school to hire him away.  He wasn't looking to leave then and nobody wanted him.  Same now.  Just a bonehead move by the AD but does he have autonomy for such a decision?  Surely there are other approvals needed and some legal advisors.

Really got there program in the crapper. They had the balls to send him backing. The revenue lost itself gave them the balls needed 27M total. 18M coach another 7M for staff. Empty seats low donations do it every time. Looking at the same situation here. Thanks GH for the link.

With the money going out to college coaches you better hire the right guy the first time. Cannot pussy foot around. Got to nail it the first time.

All this talk about the $18.5M, but what will it be next year? $14M? Just wondering. Might not be able to afford that either.

It's a lot less from my understanding but also the 18M is only Boom, we have several on the Staff under contract as well and that will also have a buyout. How much? Maybe some one here can dig up the info to see and check into next year on Booms buyout.
