The Duke Series
The Gamecocks lead the overall series 5-2 and are 4-1 against Duke in the Dawn Staley era after winning the last two meetings.

South Carolina has been ranked in the top five for the last five meetings and in the top 15 for the last six. Both teams have been ranked in the top 15 in four of the last six meetings with the better ranked team winning each time.

In their last trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium, the third-ranked Gamecocks suffered a 74-63 loss to unranked Duke on Dec.. 4, 2016.

Well, as Coach Staley was indicating in her pre-game presser, Destanni Henderson will not play tonight. Or at least, she's not starting - the starting 5 are Boston, Cooke, Saxton, Beal, and Amihere. I guess Henny could make an appearance off the bench in a limited capacity.....

Gamecocks lead 17-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. The game opened with a 3-ptr. by Duke's Balogun, that was answered with Amihere hitting a 3-ptr. Then the Gamecocks went on a 17-0 run including Amihere's 3, to take a 17-3 lead. Then a foul and a turnover at the end of the period assisted the Blue Devils with a little 4-pt run to close out the quarter.....

South Carolina leads at the half 32-16. The game has been a bit sloppy, with a combined 21 turnovers handed out - 11 for Duke, 10 for USC. But the Gamecocks have dominated on the rebounding boards, and had a strong half from the 3-pt. line, thanks to Destiny Littleton.

Aliyah Boston leads the way with 9 pts on 4-8 shooting, and 1-1 from the 3-pt. line. She also has 8 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal. Littleton came in off the bench after not playing against Maryland, and she must have been a little miffed at that. She also scores 9 pts on 3-5 shooting all from behind the arc.

Laeticia Amihere added 7 pts on 2-6 shooting, with 3 rebounds and 3 assists against just 1 turnover. Zia Cooke struggled mightily in the 1st half: she went scoreless on 0-4 shooting, with 3 turnovers. I expect her to come out for the 2nd half on a mission, but it displays how this team has multiple offensive options these days, with Henderson out and Cooke shooting a goose-egg half of ball. Used to be not too long ago, that would have the team in a big hole offensively against a quality opponent like Duke on their floor.....

Zia is a roller coaster player.  We need her to try and get a little more consistent.

Duke out-scores the Gamecocks 8-2to open the 2nd half, until Boston answered with her 2nd 3-ptr. of the game thus far, and the Gamecocks lead is now 37-24 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Duke is playing a tough zone defense against the Gamecocks.....

Yikes. Ugly offensive 2nd half.   Will win but could have gone the other way without that first qtr.   obviously.

Gamecocks survive a ugly game 55-46. They were out-scored 30-23 for the 2nd half. They will need to improve on the practice courts before taking on Stanford....

Aliyah Boston led the way with 19 pts on 8-15 shooting, with 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. She was also 2-3 from the 3-pt. line.

Destiny Littleton had her season high with 10 pts off of 3-6 shooting, all from the 3-pt. line.

Laeticia Amihere also scored 10 pts on 3-7 shooting, plus 1-1 from the 3-pt. arc. She also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists (all in the 2nd half), and 3 turnovers. She was a bit flustered in the 2nd half.

Zia Cooke really struggled tonight - she scored 7 pts on 3-17 shooting, 1-9 from the 3-pt. line. She also had 6 turnovers!!

Survive and regroup. Back to the classroom (the practice court)......
