10,000 miles

Well today was a gorgeous day to ride as opposed to Tuesday of this week where it was cold and windy and the trail was covered in debris. I did a 25.2 which pushed me over the 22k mark at 22016.2 miles. Gonna keep going as long as I can.

Got a full marathon in. Nice.

Joined a 24-hour gym this week.

I don't like treadmills, but it's better than nothing this time of year.

It took me 30 mins to do 1.5 miles on the treadmill. I am 5'9" and at 213 lbs. right now and I am usually around 180, so there is work to do.

Just have to keep a steady routine up and I should have a decent base built back up in a few weeks or sooner. I already feel better after doing 1.5 miles twice this week.

Good job, the hardest part is getting started. Just remember, something is better than nothing. You'll get there but it's not a quick trip. Kep us posted.

In the process of rebuilding my old early 90’s Spezialized Stumpjumper Mt bike. Going to make it into a gravel bike.

Was originally a lime green color. I painted it blue about 15 years ago, and now will paint it back to its original color. Here it is when I started disassembly.

I stripped down all the components. Had the frame sandblasted down to the steel. And have the primer on it.

Plan to paint it this weekend. And then will start re-assembly.

Working out arms won't have much of an effect on running speed, but legs and core definitely will. Interval training also works well. At my running peak about 10 years ago, I was able to increase my speed by doing intervals. If your treadmill has a Sprint 8 program, use that. It's a warm-up, 8 intervals of 30 seconds incline sprint and 90 seconds of recovery, and a cool down. I was walking/running 5Ks back then and used that program to go from 45 minutes to just under 30 minutes.

SA, are you going to put drop bars on your gravel bike, or keep it straight?
I thought about drop bars, but I would have to get new shifters and brakes and other components. So sticking with the flat bars. I am pulling newer components from another Mt. Bike I have that I haven't ridden in forever. I bought a rigid fork to replace the front shocks that are all worn out.

Frame is painted. Got it down just before the pollen season. Now it’s time to start putting it pack together.

Have you figured out what width you're going with on tires for the gravel convert. Going to keep it wide, or drop down to something sub-40mm?

I just bought some Panaracer Gravelking Tires. 16" x 2.1" Which is like 50mm. I have one mounted with an innertube, but have been watching videos of folks putting tubeless tires on older rims not design for tubeless. Looks doable. I am going to give it a shot.

I got my treadmill time down to 23:52 before I laid off to work on the shed in the backyard.

If you have no issues, I think a good cardio workout, either running or biking, gives you confidence to do other things in the summer.

Ah yes, Spring riding is awesome. Did a 20.2 earlier today that put me over the 23k mark at 23005.3 miles. I love being in the great outdoors!

I still have an old Garelli Strada that I rode back in the day. It's in the old shed I am replacing and I will try to post some pics when I move it to the new shed after it's finished, likely this weekend.

I used to ride it to a small town next to where I grew up back in the day. Probably about 20 miles out and back IIRC.

IMG_1668.jpegGetting there….gotta Run the cables and reinstall the chain, then tighten and tune everything up.

I was able to install the tubeless tires on the old rims. Took some trial and error to get them to seat properly. But they seem to be holding air now.
