2019 CB Johnny Dixon changes South Carolina official visit
June 13, 2018
Three-star cornerback Johnny Dixon left South Carolina last week with plans to return in the fall for an official visit the weekend of the Georgia game.
On Wednesday night, the 2019 prospect from Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Fla. tweeted about the change in plans.
“I’m taking [official visits] earlier, to make a decision,” Dixon told SEC Country.
Dixon, who took an unofficial visit to Penn State this past Saturday, originally planned to return as an official guest the weekend of the Ohio State game. That trip hasn’t been rescheduled yet.
During an interview after his last trip to South Carolina, Dixon spoke highly of Coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson.
“He’s a really good coach and he’s been growing his program since he’s been up there,” Dixon said of Muschamp, adding that he shares a “personal connection” with Robinson.
“That’s probably my favorite coach throughout this whole process,” Dixon said.
Alabama, Miami and Ohio State rounded out his recently released top five.
According to the 247Sports composite, Dixon (6-0, 170) is ranked as the No. 35 cornerback in the class of 2019.
Dixon is the second 2019 cornerback target to pick this weekend as his official visit to South Carolina. Four-star Chris Steele (Bellflower, Calif.) will return for his second trip to see the Gamecocks.
Steele, however, isn’t the only other notable 2019 cornerback with plans to be on campus this weekend. Four-star Jaydon Hill (Madison, Ala.) is scheduled to arrive on Thursday and stick around for a couple of days as an unofficial visitor.
