COLUMBIA -- South Carolina hosts Old Dominion Saturday night in Game 4 of the NCAA Columbia Regional. First pitch is at 7 p.m. There is currently no video broadcast listing for this game - I will update the thread when updated video broadcast information is available. Every Gamecock contest will be on the Gamecock Radio Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call.

PROBABLE PITCHING ROTATION
Saturday
South Carolina
Thomas Farr (RS-Jr., RHP) 3-6, 4.03 ERA, 35 BB, 86 SO
Old Dominion Ryne Moore (Jr., RHP) 8-1, 3.33 ERA, 21 BB, 72 SO

The Gamecocks opened the regional with a 4-3 win over Virginia on Friday afternoon. Colin Burgess' RBI single in the sixth was the difference. Josiah Sightler had the big hit for the Gamecocks, as his two-run, ground-rule double in the sixth tied the game at 3. Wes Clarke was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and his 23rd home run of the season in the first inning. Clarke is now tied for second on Carolina's single-season home run list. Clarke is tied with Nick Ebert (2009), Justin Smoak (2008) and Joe Datin (1985) on the list. Yaron Peters holds the school record with 29 round trippers. Julian Bosnic earned the win on the mound for the Gamecocks. He pitched 3.2 innings of relief, allowing three hits and a run with three strikeouts.

SCOUTING OLD DOMINION

#1 Seed Old Dominion came into the Columbia Regional winning the program's first ever Conference USA conference championship with it's 7-5 victory in 10 innings over Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA last weekend. The conference title was the Monarch's first since it last won a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship in 1996. Old Dominion continued its winning ways by winning the Game 2 nightcap on Friday, defeating Jacksonville 4-3, which was the Monarch's 8th consecutive win. Kenny Levari had a two-run home run in the first and Kyle Battle drove in a pair with a double in the second to account for all four of its runs.

SERIES VS OLD DOMINION

South Carolina and Old Dominion have met 23 times on the diamond with Carolina owning a 19-4 series advantage. The two teams last met in 2009, with the Gamecocks coming away with a 13-3 win on March 10. Nick Ebert and Justin Dalles drove in three runs apiece and DeAngelo Mack had three hits in the Carolina win.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Carolina has now won 11 straight games against the Cavaliers.
  • The Gamecocks are now 137-69 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Carolina won its second straight regional opener. The Gamecocks defeated Ohio State in the 2018 NCAA Greenville Regional opener.

The box score play-by-play summary on the SEC Sports web page just didn't work yesterday.  Had no runs from either team, but the box score itself was correct.

Hopefully no weather issues tonight.

The start time has been pushed back to 8:06 PM. Hopefully that's as far as it goes.

In the earlier Game 3, Virginia defeats Jacksonville 13-8 in the loser's bracket. Jacksonville gets two games and a BBQ. The loser of tonight's game will face Virginia tomorrow in the early game, and the winner of THAT game then takes on the winner of tonight's game later tomorrow night.....

1-0 ODU bottom 3rd inning:

George Callil grounds out leading off. Brady Allen singles for the Gamecocks first hit of the game!!! Andrew Eyster reaches safely on a fielding muff at 2B. We have two Gamecocks on with only 1 out.

Wes Clarke strikes out swinging. Josiah Sightler strikes out swinging to end the threat. Well at least we got a hit - no no-hitter against us today!

Glad Farr is doing okay. Their batters got high averages and with the exception of that one guy getting the HR, he has been pitching pretty good.

1-0 ODU bottom 4th inning:

Brennan Milone strikes out swinging. Braylen Wimmer singles! Wimmer then advances to 3B off of a wild pitch to Colin Burgess. Burgess is then hit by a pitch, and we have Gamecocks on the corners with just 1 out! We got a man 90 feet closer this time guys - let's do something here!

Joe Satterfield flies out - not a hit, but it drives in Wimmer to tie the game!!! Wimmer is just too fast for anyone to throw him out from 3B. Game is tied now!! Burgess is still on 1B now 2 outs. Get a hit here George!!

Callil strikes out looking. He strikes out looking for the vast majority of strikeouts he's gotten this season.....

But a new game now!

1-1 top 5th inning....

1-1 top 5th inning:

Thomas Farr has only 41 pitches through 4.0 innings, so he's doing fine. But this Monarch order is full of .300+ hitters.....

He strikes out the lead-off batter. The next batter gets to 0-2 and is hit. The next batter gets to 0-2 and pops it up to 3B. THEY LET IT DROP!!! They could have thrown it to 2B after picking it up for the out, as the man on 1B hesitated thinking it would be caught, but they freeze. No communication to Sightler! Now 2 ODU men on 2B and 1B, with 1 out. Man, just NO HELP FROM HIS DEFENSE OR OFFENSE TONIGHT!!!

Farr strikes out the next batter. Top of the ODU order up. The next batter has hit 18 HRs on the season.

Farr walks him on 4 pitches. Bases loaded. HUGE at-bat up next......

The next batter hits it between Farr and 1B. Farr races to 1st, and Satterfield retrieves the ball and tosses it to Thomas for the final out!

1-1 bottom 5th.....

1-1 bottom 5th inning:

Hopeful momentum shift towards the Gamecocks with the hold in the last inning. The ODU pitcher has thrown 63 pitches through 4.0 innings - he's had to work more than Farr has thus far.

Top of the Gamecock order up: Allen grounds out. Eyster grounds out. Clarke strikes out swinging. DAMMIT! Both Allen and Eyster swung on 1st-pitches. They just HELPED OUT ODU GREATLY THAT INNING, AND DIRECTLY HURT FARR.

Now Farr has to come back out to the mound. He hardly sat down to catch his breath.....

1-1 top 6th.....

Top 6th inning:

A fly out, ground out, a hit by pitch, and then a LONG DEEP FLY BALL that Eyster catches at the warning track for the final out!! Man, that one had everyone's heart in their throats.

Come on Gamecocks!! We need some offense!!

:cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball:

Farr had some long hits but only one made it on base. 7 great innings is huge for him. 88 pitches. How many more is yet to be seen.
