The Longhorns are coming off a 15-9 win over Sam Houston State on Tuesday night (March 9). Zach Zubia had three hits and five RBI in the win. Ivan Melendez added three hits and three RBI. Pete Hansen earned the win on the mound, striking out three in four innings of work. Zubia is hitting .359 with 12 RBI on the season. SERIES VS. TEXAS
All three meetings between the Gamecocks and the Longhorns have been in Omaha. The two teams met twice in 1975, with Texas winning 17-6 and 5-1 in the national championship game. They then met in the 2002 national championship game, with Texas winning 12-6. Carolina and Texas will meet this season in Austin and next year at Founders Park.

STELLAR PITCHING LIFTS CAROLINA TO SWEEP OF MERCER
The South Carolina pitching staff struck out 44 batters and allowed just one run in 27 innings pitched in a three-game sweep of Mercer on March 5-7. Thomas Farr earned the win on Friday, allowing six hits and a run with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. On Saturday, Brannon Jordan recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in the 4-0 win while Julian Bosnic struck out nine in 5.1 innings in a 1-0 win on Sunday. Jack Mahoney and Brett Kerry pitched twice during the weekend and Andrew Peters struck out five in 2.2 innings of relief on Friday.

Top 1st inning:

Brady Allen and Joe Satterfield both ground out, and Wesley Clarke flies out to start the game for the Gamecocks.

0-0 Bottom 1st.....

Thomas Farr gets in a little trouble with back-to-back singles to put two Longhorns on base with 0 outs. Farr strikes out the next batter in 3 pitches, but works the next batter to a full count before he hits into a fielder's choice getting the 2nd out at 2B - Longhorns on the corners with 2 outs.

Farr jumps on the next batter 0-2 in the count - he strikes out looking for the final out of the side.

0-0 Top 2nd.....

0-0 top 2nd inning:

Josiah Sightler, Andrew Eyster, and David Mendham up first. Ty Madden for Texas is a bad-ass pitcher for the Longhorns - we're going to have to make the most of our opportunities at the plate. Sightler walks, and we start this inning off right.

Eyster strikes out for the 1st out. Mendham also walks - we're finding a way to get on base, but we'll need to get a base hit soon. But we're also making Madden throw pitches early.

Colin Burgess is up next. He also works the count full. BURGESS WALKS!! Bases are full of Gamecocks with only 1 out. This hot-shot Texas hurler is scuffling early! Lets take advantage here!

0-0 top 2nd inning:

1 out, bases loaded with Gamecocks.

Braylen Wimmer is up next. WIMMER FLIES OUT TO RIGHT FIELD, BUT SIGHTLER SCORES!! 2 outs now, and Gamecocks have the lead!

George Callil hits into a fielder's choice and Burgess is out at 2B for the final out. But the Gamecocks put a run on the scoreboard without benefit of a hit. Madden has thrown 40 pitches through 2.0 innings.

1-0 South Carolina, bottom 2nd.....

Farr takes the mound. The lead-off Texas batter doubles. Lets not let the Longhorns get that run back.

The Texas baserunner advances to 3B on a wild pitch, and we're giving that run back I guess.

Farr walks the next batter and I don't know what's going on here.

He strikes out the next batter for the 1st out.

The next batter singles driving in the man on 3B and tying the score. Still Texas men on 2B and 1B, 1 out.

The next batter flies to a catch-em out throw-em out double play!! Eyster snags the flyer for Out #2, and then throws a rope to Burgess at the plate to tag out the runner!! Minimal damage considering, but the game is now tied.

1-1 Top 3rd inning......

1-1 Top 3rd inning:

Top of the lineup for the Gamecocks. Allen lines out. Satterfield strikes out. Clarke grounds out. Quick inning.

1-1 Bottom 3rd inning:

Farr steps up. Like Madden, he also has thrown 40 pitches through 2.0 innings. The Longhorns have 4 hits thus far, while the Gamecocks have yet to register a hit, but the score is tied.

Farr strikes out the leading Texas batter. The next batter also strikes out for Out #2. Farr strikes out the side in order 1-2-3!! Looks like he's found his location again - don't know what happened in the previous inning.

1-1 Top 4th.....

Yep he's pretty good. The radio announcers say he's the top MLB draft prospect out of the Big-12 for this coming draft......
We helped him a little with that steal attempt that inning.   Base runner literally slid on his face.   UT pitcher at 60 now so I wonder how far he goes.  Hope we keep it tied or close long enough to get to the pen

1-1 Top 4th inning:

Sightler, Eyster, and Mendham up next. These guys were up in the 2nd inning when we scored our run, but it was all off of walks. Lets not wait for Madden to give us bases - lets take them!!

Sightler grounds out.

Eyster singles up the middle - it hits off Madden's leg!!! That breaks the schneid for the Gamecocks! Our first hit of the game! Lets get another one!

RATS!! Eyster attempts to steal 2B, and is caught out. 2 outs now.

Mendham strikes out for the final out.

1-1 Bottom 4th inning:

Farr strikes out the lead-off Texas batter. The next batter singles. The Gamecocks return the favor to the Longhorns, and Burgess throws out the Texas base-runner who attempts to steal 2nd, for the 2nd out. Farr strikes out the next batter for the final out. A real pitcher's duel playing out tonight.

1-1 Top 5th.....

1-1 Top 5th inning:

Burgess, Wimmer, and Callil up next in the lineup...

Burgess grounds out, Wimmer strikes out. Callil grounds out for a 1-2-3 inning for the Gamecocks.

Madden has 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Seems like he has more Ks, but he's only allowed 1 hit thus far. Farr has 8 Ks with only 1 walk, but has allowed 5 hits.

1-1 Bottom 5th inning:

Farr back on the mound. He gets another strikeout of the lead-off Texas batter. He's pitching very strong right now. The next batter grounds out. The next batter singles. Then THAT batter thinks Colin was lucky before, and tries for 2B too - Colin says, "unh uh!", and throws him out too. Burgess has an outstanding attempted steal throw out ratio thus far this season.

1-1 Top 6th inning....

Burgess guns another runner down.

Between the battery of Farr and Burgess, Texas is meeting its match tonight, that's for sure.

Farr now has 81 pitches through 5 innings. Madden has thrown 74 pitches through 5 innings...

1-1 Top 6th inning:

Top of the order coming to bat for the Yardcocks. Lets get some hits here!

Allen grounds out. Satterfield grounds out. Those guys both swung early in the counts. Gotta get their pitcher to throw some pitches, guys.

Clarke has a long at-bat battle against Madden, and wins with a single! Sightler singles! We've got men on 2B and 1B, but 2 outs.

Eyster fouls out to end the threat. Madden now has 91 pitches through 6 innings.

1-1 Bottom 6th inning:

Farr still out there. He gets the lead-off Texas batter to pop-out to shortstop. The next batter singles - he steals 2nd successfully.

Farr strikes out the next batter for the 2nd out - that's his 10th strikeout. He gets the next batter to pop out for the final out. Farr has now thrown 100 pitches.

1-1 Top 7th inning....

1-1 Top 7th inning:

Mendham, Burgess, Wimmer up next....

Mendham strikes out. Burgess grounds out. Wimmer flies out for a pretty quick inning for the Gamecocks.

1-1 Bottom 7th inning:

That's it for Farr. He pitched a heck of a game. Jack Mahoney comes in out of the bullpen. Farr pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 7 hits with only 1 earned run, 10 strikeouts and only walk.

Mahoney gets the lead-off batter to strike out. Then the next batter strikes out - 2 outs. The next batter singles. The next batter walks on 4 pitches, and they're on 2B and 1B with 2 outs. Lets get this one here, Jack! YES! Mahoney strikes out the next Texas batter to strike out the side around a lone single.

1-1 Top 8th....
