***2021 Baseball South Carolina (24-10) vs Arkansas (30-6) Game 1 Thread***

Not sure Sweatt was the right pitcher to being in there. But like you said, the staff may be already looking to next 2 games.

Yep with his high ERA thus far that was not the best spot for him to make an appearance. But Gilreath pitched solidly coming in with men on 3B and 2B and 0 outs, and gives up 0 runs - even if they were Sweatt's guys. Now our bats REALLY need to step up here - but this is a strong pitcher for Arky...

Arkansas wins Game 1 6-1. Games 2 and 3 will be played tomorrow (Friday) as a double-header, due to weather concerns over the weekend. Game 2 will start at 2:00 PM, and Game 3 will begin at 7:00 PM....

1-1 top 7th inning:

Farr steps up. The lead-off Arkansas batter singles. The next batter homers them both in. 3-1 Arkansas.

This is just too good a hitting lineup to play around with. Farr still in - the next batter flies out for the 1st out. The next batter reaches safely when Farr muffs the grounder. He advances to 2nd on a wild pitch. The next batter lines out to Heinrich at 3rd - the Hog on 2B led off 2B towards 3B on the play: Heinrich throws wide to 2nd to attempt to get him out for the 2nd error of the inning, and he ends up at 3B anyways.

The next batter bunt singles in the man on 3rd for the 4th run for Arkansas. The next batter flies out to end the inning, but the Gamecocks are in a hole. That should be it for Farr.....

4-1 Arkansas, bottom 7th inning......
IMHO this was the turning point inning for us.  Two on and no outs, and the runners never get past second base, just poor execution on our part.  It was a really good game through six innings.

Boy was it great to see SC baseball back on the SEC Network, for those of us that don't get the "+" options.

I would say, "disappointing loss," but it's clear we have trouble hitting in Game 1's.

Technically, the Hogs only had to score 2 runs total to beat us.

But our trend is to bounce back in Games 2 and 3, so I will just ride it out and see what happens.

It's also great that we have 9 innings in both DH games today to get the hitting figured out.
