***2021 Baseball South Carolina (4-0) at Clemson (3-0) Game 1 Thread***

2-1 Gamecocks top 7th:

Normal Sunday starter Julian Bosnic comes in for Farr. Bosnic should be able for long relief. Thomas is in line for the win. Noah Myers comes in at centerfield for Wimmer for defensive purposes.

The wind kicks up!!! Bosnic strikes out the side all swinging! WHIFF! WHIFF! WHIFF! SIT DOWN!!

2-1 Gamecocks, bottom 7th. Time to stretch!

2-1 Yardcocks Bottom 7th:

Both Myers and Clarke strike out. Looks like the making of a quick inning. Then Eyster and then Mendham both singles. But Burgess grounds out to end the threat.....

2-1 South Carolina, top 8th. Getting a bit too tight for comfort....

South Carolina 2-1, top 8th:

Bosnic hits the first batter - grazes his jersey on an inside pitch, was all it was. Brett Kerry comes in for Bosnic now - looks like a 2-inning save appearance for him.

He inherits the man on 1B, and 0 outs.

Kerry strikes out Teodosio, one of the Tigers' top batters! A huge out! And Teodosio mouths off at Kerry on his way to the Ice Cream dugout. STFASD, Tiger....

A pop-up brings the 2nd out.

A wild pitch gets away from Burgess. The 1B runner takes off and is safe at 2B for the steal.

A walk and there's men on 2B and 1B, 2 outs.

Pretty nervous here......

Kerry STRIKES OUT THE BATTER SWINGING!! That ends the Clemson threat!! Ballsy pitching from Brett!

South Carolina 2-1, bottom 8th.....

South Carolina 2-1, bottom 8th inning:

Milone is walked - the final called ball looked pretty good, but after all those wide of the plate strikes called for Sharpe earlier, I'll take it.

Tigers go to their bullpen.....

Heinrich strikes out.....

Callil flies out.....

Allen DOUBLES! Milone stops at 3B. But Myers is up next, and he's scuffling at the plate right now, 1 for 6 (.167) on the season thus far....

He gets the pitcher to a full count. But he strikes out swinging.....

2-1 Gamecocks, top 9th. Kerry Time.........

2-1 Gamecocks, top 9th:

Kerry gets to the 0-2 count, but leaves a hanging breaking ball to one of the top batters for Clemson (there are about 3 - Teodosio, Parker, and Brewer. Parker was at the plate here) who sends it out of the park. We're tied up 2-2 now. Brett has got to regroup quickly now.....

Clarke, Eyster, and Mendham are up next for the Gamecocks.

Kerry gets the next batter on a strikeout swinging, 1 out....

The next Tiger batter flies out to the deepest part of the park. 2 outs....

Kerry gets the final out on a strikeout swinging, but the Tigers do damage and tie the game up.

2-2 Tie Game, bottom 9th.....

2-2 Tie Game, bottom 9th:

New pitcher for Clemson. Wes Clarke steps into the box.

Clarke strikes out.

Eyster strikes out. The momentum seems all on the Tiger's side now. Their bringing in pitchers out of the bull pen that are throwing 115 mph, 123 mph, 141 mph.......everything seems to be going up, up ,up ,up for the Tigers with each pitcher and batter that comes in......

Mendham strikes out. Since that home run off of Kerry, this has been all Clemson.

2-2 Tie Game, top 10th......

Top of the 10th inning:

Kerry still in there. This should be his only appearance for this weekend series.

The first Tiger batter pops out.

The next batter is Teodosio. He strikes out swinging.

The final batter strikes out looking. Kerry has pitched pretty strong, except for one batter.

Burgess, Milone, and Heinrich up next.

2-2 Tie Game, bottom 10th....

2-2 bottom 10th inning:

Colin Burgess smacks a hard liner down the left line. He heads for 2B, but the ball bounced off the outfield wall back to the fielder, who throws a rope to 2B. Burgess is the catcher and is not expected to be all that fast on the basepaths. The call is he's tagged out at 2B for the 1st out, but there's a review on the call. I think he's out, or I don't think the replay is good enough to overturn it. IMO, Burgess should have been REAL cautious and not try to stretch it too much. He's the first batter - they say never be the 1st or 3rd out on the basepaths. Having him on 1B would have far more useful than the 1st out.

Review confirms the tag out at 2B.

Milone strikes out swinging.

Heinrich singles.

Callil strikes out.

Tons and tons of strikeouts.....

2-2 Top 11th inning.....

2-2 top 11th inning:

Kerry takes the mound. He's thrown 48 pitches. He walks the first Clemson batter.

The next Clemson batter singles. Tigers on the corners, and it's about done.

Kerry is done. Will Sanders comes in......

Here we go.....

WOAH!!!!

A 2-out DOUBLE PLAY!!! A TRUE-BLUE CLEMSON MOMENTUM KILLER!!! THE GAMECOCK"S BEST FRIEND!! Callil to Heinrich to Mendham, and Clemson is left with a Tiger on 3B, and now 2 outs. They need a hit now.

THEY DON'T GET IT!! Sanders gets the final batter to ground out to Callil for the 3rd out! We're still in this, but we need to take advantage, and get some hits.

2-2 bottom 11th inning.....

2-2 Bottom 11th inning:

Brady Allen lead-off hitter DOUBLES to right center!! We got something starting!

Crap....Myers bunts foul for the 3rd strike....1 out....

Clarke is intentionally walked. Yardcocks on 2B and 1B, with 1 out, for Eyster. Eyster is 1-5 today with a single.

ANDREW EYSTER HITS A DOUBLE TO RIGHT CENTER!!! Clemson outfield was in to get any hit and throw out the potential winning run at the plate, but Eyster hits it over their heads to the wall!

GAMECOCKS STEAL THIS ONE OUT OF CLEMSON"S HIP POCKET 3-2, and win the opening game of the series!!!

Any win over them is a great win.   Tough game watching the strike zone for both teams.   Happy to pull that one out.

Talk about a tremendous sigh of relief for me!! We doubled Clemson on hits, they had twice the number of errors, and still we were tied 2-2 with Clemson base-runners on the corners and 0 outs in the top of the 11th, with Kerry hitting the showers. It looked totally bleak.

But we somehow escape that and then win the game! I think the game-tying homerun off of Kerry totally ripped the momentum from us to Clemson's side, then that double-play to kill that men on the corners with 0 outs in the top 11th, ripped it right back from Clemson to the Gamecock's side.

Sanders gets the win for his first decision as a Gamecock. Tomorrow's game is in friendly confines in Founder's Park...
