Beat Everybody!

This is a yardstick game for us, for sure. Will give us a much better idea of where we really stand moving forward. Biggest question mark for me isn't QB, it's whether or not our OL plays better. If it does, we win by 10 or more. If it doesn't, it's anybody's guess.

From reading the recap above and what I have tried to find, it seems the Pirate D is OK, but not that good.  I am just hoping their DL is not very good and our OL can get some push and move some bodies for our RBs.  Gotta run the ball well on the road to win games.

They struggle with that 10 yard hitch pass. We should be able to bust off a few if we can block down field. I also agree our OL has to play better. Georgia coming up fast and we all know what that DL is capable of.

Lack of respect by oddsmakers doesn't surprise me. Last week, we did what was expected. ECU is a step up but still the SEC team is expected to win these matchups, first-year head coach or not, and I think will. I think our coaching staff has this team's head on straight and our talent is greater than theirs. Therefore, my big ole gut tells me we win this one by 14.  What I will be looking for is clear improvement by the O line or it's gonna be a long season in the SEC.

I have been so used to us not having consistent balance the past several seasons.  The defense was good one week and bad the next; same for the offense.  Rarely have we been good on both sides of the ball in a game the past several seasons.

It's still one game at a time for me, but the balance we saw against Eastern Illinois makes me think we're going to lock down and curb-stomp opponents this season.

A large part of me thinks we're going to handle ECU pretty good and then upset UGA and play them with better balance than Clemson did.

I could see us coming in at #15-18 in the polls if we beat ECU and UGA then Clemson pays a price in the polls after losing to UGA and then playing a weak schedule at the same time.

It's one game at a time, but the UGA game may have national ramifications if we get the upset after we beat ECU.

Whoa dude, tap the brakes just a bit.  lol

Im not seeing the ECU love either. If the weather is decent we will get near 500 yards of offense. It it rains we will run the crap out of the ball with some timely down field passes. I just dont see us losing this game no matter who QBs. We have talent on both sides of the ball that can really play so I say a 17 plus point win.

The weather is supposed to be great, sunny and not too hot. I would sure like to see your scenario happen.

I would make the trip to the ECU game if I hadn't gone to Darlington this week.  No straight shot to Greenville, NC, from the Columbia area.  Have to take I-20 over to Florence, then head up I-77.

Not a big fan of the noon kick-offs, but at least we won't have to wait all day to find out how we're going to do.

What I'm going to be looking for:

  • Their QB threw for a ton of yards last week. We need to hit him early and often and keep him thinking about our rush all game long.
  • Our yards per carry. The OL greatly underimpressed last week.
  • Dak was shaky catching the ball last week - no drops for him tomorrow.
  • Stupid penalties - which team will be better coached?
  • Turnovers. IIRC, Brown had our only turnover last week. We need to win that battle. True every week, though.
  • Their top rusher was also their top receiver last week - for the love of God, spy that guy all game long.

24-20 Cocks. Ugly offense all around, but winning in the trenches and the turnover battle should put us out on top.

From what I've been told over on some other sites by insiders, the offensive line isn't as worrisome as many think. EIU sold out loading the box and trying to seal gaps, but the coaching staff was generally happy with pass protection, all things considered. They certainly need to pick it up with run blocking, but until we have a passing threat defenses have to respect, there's only so much we can do about constant blitzes.

The key to everything on offense this year is the wide receivers finding their footing, especially with deep passes. Develop that, and that opens up everything else.

Gamecocks 29

Pirates 14

Noland and Doty both get 2 TD passes and we get another 2 pt. conversion just to keep other teams on their toes.

Seems the crowd will be on the light side at ECU. which is fine with me.

#ECU AD Jon Gilbert says during BOT meetings he’s expecting Saturday attendance to be in low 40 thousands.

I had heard the game was a sell out for ECU.  Any idea what seating capacity for their stadium is?
