Signing week got off on the right foot for Will Muschamp and USC Monday afternoon with OL Jakai Moore 6'5" 293lbs of Nokesville, VA announced he will sign Wednesday with the Gamecocks. He chose USC over Penn State. Some of his other offers were Clemson, Maryland, Louisville, Rutgers, Florida, Ohio State, Southern Cal and Pitt.
“We don’t want you, we need you and I can come in ans start early,” Moore said was the message he got from Muschamp and offensive line coach Eric Wolford during the recruiting process. “When I talked to them, the first thing they told me is they are going to take care of me and my mom. They didn’t leave my mom out of anything. My mom is coming down there with me.”
Moore is a talented offensive line and overall athlete who also is a standout on the Patriot High School basketball team.
The offensive line was a major area of need in this recruiting class for South Carolina and the Gamecocks seem to have addressed the issue now that Jakai Moore has
announced his commitment. The Nokesville (Va.) Patriot offensive lineman breaks down his commitment to South Carolina.
needs offensive linemen to block for him and I think I can do that,” Moore said. “With the Gamecocks, you can start as a young player and I think I can do that. Coming in as a freshman I think I have a great chance of starting.
“Coach Wolford is one of the best coaches around and he’s put a lot of guys in the NFL,” he said. “I’m very confident him.
“A lot of the players helped recruit me too,” said Moore. “I feel very comfortable with them.”
“I think he’s going to be a left tackle,” said Moore’s coach Brud Bicknell. “He’s very long and a natural lefthander. He’s kind of a freak athlete for somebody 300 pounds. He has the ability to finish and fight that not all big guys have. He’s very raw at this point. He does understand driving his feet after contact and he loves to pancake people. And he has a great extension and jab on pass protection. He hits a guy and they buckle to their knees.”
Moore gives the Gamecocks four offensive linemen in the 2019 class which now numbers 20 including three previous signees who will count in the class.
REACTION
Moore brings additional talent to a South Carolina offensive line that needs to reload. He is just the third offensive lineman to join this Gamecock recruiting class and South Carolina pulled out all the stops to make sure he chose them over Penn State. Moore has a ton of athletic potential and plays with the aggressiveness you look for but is still technically raw.
