USC has had a long recruiting relationship with 4 star DL Jaquaze Sorrells 6'2" 292lbs of Winter Park, FL and the Gamecocks will get their final chance to make a big impression this weekend when he makes his official visit. He’s no stranger to the USC campus.
This will be Sorrells fourth visit to campus. He was there last summer for camp and returned for a recruiting event in late July. And he also attended a game this past season. He has his decision down to USC, Penn State and Alabama and will see each one more time over the next three weekends.
“He and his mom are talking regularly and just trying to figure out what’s best for him to do,” said Winter Park recruiting coordinator Kit Hill. “I know he’s going to South Carolina this weekend. The coach (recruiter) from Penn State was in my office today (Wednesday) as was the coach from Alabama. Both D-line coaches from those institutions. That’s where we are.”
Gamecock head coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson met with with Sorrells and his mother last Sunday for an in-home visit.
“He said he thought it went well,” Hill said. “He really likes Muschamp and thought the visit went well and so on and so forth.”
Relationship with the coaches will be key in the decision according to Hill. And he has strong ones with each program, that’s why they are the final three.
“If he had wanted to, he could have really opened it up to a whole bunch of other places,” Hill said. . “But he told me, he said, ‘Coach these other people stopped calling me and then when signing day came around they got who they wanted and now they are calling me back? I’m staying with the people who have stayed with me throughout and those are the three.”
Sorrells is a former Florida commitment. In his career he had 178 tackles and 18 sacks.
