4 star WR Josh Vann 5'11" 175lbs of Tucker, GA Saturday announced a commitment to USC. Vann picked the Gamecocks over Georgia and made his announcement just minutes after his team’s season opening win at Georgia State’s new football stadium in Atlanta, formerly known as Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. Vann had a late game 79 yard touchdown catch to send the game into overtime and his touchdown catch in overtime gave his team the lead. He had three touchdown catches on the game.
Vann had gone back and forth all summer between the Gamecocks and the Bulldogs and the persistence of Will Muschamp and Bryan McClendon paid off with the Gamecocks’ 19th commitment for the 2018 class. Vann said he foresees an early chance to play at USC with the likelihood that Deebo Samuel will leave for the NFL after this season. And the idea of catching passes from Jake Bentley is exciting to him.
“By me coming in as a freshman I’ll probably still have that young mentality and he’ll still have that young mentality,” Vann said. “I feel like we’ll be able to bond a little better and have our chemistry down pat quicker. I see myself as a perfect fit, playing all over the field, making big plays for myself and for the team.”
Vann has been impressed with the rebuilding job Muschamp is doing in Columbia and expects to see a competitive team from the Gamecocks in 2017. And in 2018 and beyond, he expects even bigger things.
“I see that great things are about to happen,” he said. “They are getting everything new. It’s a rebuilding process and great things are going to happen.”
Last season Vann had 63 catches for 1300 yards. He gives the Gamecocks four receivers in the ’18 class.
