4-star offensive tackle Maxwell Iyama recaps South Carolina visit

Four-star offensive tackle Maxwell Iyama visited South Carolina this past Saturday to watch the Gamecocks go through spring practice.
Ranked by Rivals as the No. 27 offensive tackle in the class of 2018, Iyama lists South Carolina in his top five alongside Georgia, Tennessee, Louisville and Memphis.
“A place where I think I can fit in, a good offensive line coach that I can build a relationship with and I can trust,” Iyama said, when asked about the factors in his recruitment.
He’ll announce his decision at the end of the spring.
“I would like to look at the academic program and see how good the computer science program is. That’s basically the main things, and the coaching staff,” Iyama said.
South Carolina already has two offensive linemen committed for the 2018 class, but LaMarius Benson and Hank Manos profile to play along the interior.
“They need me,” Iyama said. “They need my length and they need my athletic ability on the edge.”
The 6-foot-5, 299-pound prospect from Siegel High School (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) enjoyed seeing the Gamecocks practice.
“It was great. I liked how they got at it at practice, with full-contact,” Iyama said. “And I liked coach Wolf. I liked the coaching staff, as a whole. I liked the strength trainer, how his energy was.”
Watching offensive line coach Eric Wolford was a plus.
“He’s pretty solid. He’s straight-forward. He doesn’t try to put a silver-lining on anything. That’s what I like about him,” Iyama said. “He’s not trying to hide anything. It is what it is. He’s really a good coach. He thinks he can help me get to the next level.”
This spring, he’s already taken trips to Tennessee, Louisville and Georgia. Up next are visits to Memphis and LSU. He’s also looking to stop by Mississippi State or Ole Miss.
