4-star WR to return
For a second straight weekend, South Carolina is in position to land a visit from a 4-star wide receiver from the Atlanta area. This weekend, it’s Matthew Hill, the No. 29 prospect at the position in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite.
Hill, who’s out of Brookwood High School in Snellville, has long been considered as an Auburn lean. However, during a recent interview with SEC Country reporter Ben Wolk, Hill said Alabama and South Carolina are applying heavy interest.
“I need to feel like I’m at home, somewhere that has father figures in my life, just basically where I can go and have fun since football isn’t always in the picture,” Hill said.
The Gamecocks had him on campus in April for the Garnet & Black spring game. He also visited for a game in the fall.
2019 DE recaps South Carolina
Curtis Fann, a 2019 defensive end from Twin City, Ga., was among the headliners visiting last Saturday for South Carolina’s last camp session of the month.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound prospect gave the visit a strong review.
“It went great. I got to work with [defensive line] coach [Lance] Thompson and learned a lot,” he said. “I like [Thompson] a lot. We are building a good relationship and I think I [would] fit good under him.”
The trip also afforded him a chance to see the school for the first time.
“The dorms were really nice,” Fann said. “But the whole university stood out really. … I enjoyed it.”
Before leaving, Fann met with Muschamp in his office.
“The part where he said come be a part of the championship — that stood out,” Fann said. “I think they are building something special in Columbia.”
In addition to South Carolina, several SEC programs have also offered, including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and LSU.

3-star ATH Bryce Thompson: July 30
4-star S Trey Dean: July 31
3-star CB Steven Gilmore: Sept. 17
Crystal Ball Evaluation
Crystal Ball Evaluation
Over the last day or so, South Carolina has been a popular selection on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. The Gamecocks recently landed five picks.
As usual, your resident thoughts below:
South Carolina (3): 3-star CB Steven Gilmore: Given the connection through his brother, most are assuming he’ll follow suit. At this point, it’s not clear if there’s much mutual interest between the Gamecocks and the younger Gilmore. He hasn’t visited since the spring, though he’s working on returning this summer.
South Carolina (2): 4-star DT Rick Sandidge: For now, Sandidge and his family are soaking up every little bit of the recruiting process, as they should. But South Carolina’s got one thing working in their favor: Mom is a graduate. The Gamecocks, long-term, figure to have the best odds.
