5-star Auburn commit highlights Monday’s visitors at South Carolina

June 13, 2016

Auburn commitment Calvin Ashley, the No. 3-ranked offensive tackle in the class of 2017, is visiting South Carolina on Monday with a group of prospects taking a bus tour from Orlando, Fla.

One SEC Country source indicated Ashley is listening to what the South Carolina coaches have to say, but also noted he’s pretty firm with his pledge to Auburn.

The group, which is sponsored by Top Recruits Now, has tour stops at NC State, UNC, Clemson, Wake Forest, Florida and Florida State.

Ashley isn’t the only visiting 2017 offensive lineman who’s committed elsewhere. Miami pledgeNavaughn Donaldson, a 4-star from Miami Central High School, one of the top programs in the country, is visiting with several of his high school teammates.

OrTre Smith, the top 2017 in-state prospect from Mount Pleasant, S.C., is back on campus. The 4-star athlete (No. 3 in 2017) visited Georgia over the weekend. A trip to Clemson is also in the works.

Jordan Pouncey, a 3-star wide receiver from Winter Park, Fla., who lists a South Carolina offer, is also with the Orlando bus tour.

None of the prospects were working out during the morning portion of the Will Muschamp Football Camp.

Also up from Florida is a group of prospects from Chaminade-Madonna High School in Hollywood, Fla., two of whom were offered by the Gamecocks in the spring: 2018 WR Xavier Williams and 2018 RB Shaun Shivers. They’re joined by 2018 DE Davoan Hawkins, who has several ACC offers.

In town from Colleton County High School (S.C.) are 2018 WR Justin Williams and 2019 WRJavon Williams (no relation).

Joe Milton, a 2018 quarterback from Orlando’s Olympia High School, is with the Orlando contingent. So is Tanner Ingle, a 2018 cornerback from the city’s Dr. Phillips High School.

Devin Darrington, a 2017 running back from Maryland, is back on campus. The 3-star from Bel Air, Md. camped with the Gamecocks last week. He’s joined by a few teammates: WR Niko Riceand QB Qadir Ismael, the son of Raghib “Rocket” Ismael.

Florida’s Ocoee High School has eight visitors on campus, including 2017 CB Dorian Jones and 2017 CB B.J. Bohler, who ran a 4.37 in the 40-yard-dash.

The South Carolina coaches also held a youth camp on Monday morning. Most members of the staff were working with the kids as the high school campers went though the combine portion.
