It’s big news any time Xavier Thomas plans to visit South Carolina.
The 5-star defensive end from Wilson High School in Florence, S.C., announced the plans on Wednesday night:
A few hours earlier, Kentucky quarterback commitment Jarren Williams tweeted about his offer from the Gamecocks:
A 3-star prospect from Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, Ga., Williams is the No. 20-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2018. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound recruit also lists offers from Florida State, Houston, Louisville and West Virginia.

A few more nuggets of information to pass along about 4-star offensive tackle Warren McClendon, the 2019 prospect from Brunswick, Ga., who visited for the Tennessee game.
McClendon hopes to make game-day visits to Clemson and Louisville before the season ends.
Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee have offered the 6-foot-4, 270-pound prospect.
His decision, of course, doesn’t have to be made for quite some time. The plan is to announce a commitment before his senior year.
Several factors will be considered as he works toward that decision.
“Just how the coaching staff is and how connected the coaching staff is. And just the atmosphere. And how close it is to my family,” McClendon said.
South Carolina co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon is his cousin.

Seven days after Jamal Elliott’s return to South Carolina, the 4-star running back from Hillside High School in Durham, N.C., will visit N.C. State. Before he heads over to Raleigh to see the Wolfpack play Florida State, he’ll take the SAT.
N.C. State has hosted him for multiple visits this season. East Carolina, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee have offered.
Elliott, who’s one of 13 4-star prospects in the state of North Carolina’s 2018 haul, is in no rush to make his decision.
“I see a lot of teams that are impressing me. I’m just going to weigh my options out and just take my time with it,” he said.
Several factors will be considered.
“First off, I want a school with an atmosphere (and) what fits me best with the academics, and that’s pretty much it,” Elliott said. “I want a school that will fit me best.”

“I think they’re well-coached and they make plays when they need them to.”
The head coach’s take
Earlier this week, Muschamp was asked about the game and what type of an impact it could have on the Gamecocks recruiting efforts.
“The environment that we have in our home stadium, especially for a night game, is tremendous in recruiting and to see the positive support that our fans give us, helps us tremendously in recruiting,” he said. “I think you’ve always got to have promise in what you’re trying to sell to a young man and his family and to see that the product on the field is benefiting (the players).
“Most prospects talk to the players on the team, so they’re going to find out if you’re a good coach, if you really care about them off the field, all the things that a young man would ask another young man about a school, about the academic support, about all of the things that are important to a student-athlete when he’s choosing a school.
“But you’ve got to be able to see some progress as far as those things are concerned. There’s no doubt it helps.”
