South Carolina commit Arden Key (Atlanta, Ga./Hapeville Charter) was scheduled to take an official visit to Texas Tech this weekend, but instead will take the SAT.

Speaking to Daniel Paulling of Wreckem247, Key said he plans to take official visits to LSU on Jan. 16, South Carolina on Jan. 23 and Georgia on Jan. 30. He's also in the process of scheduling a visit to Miami and will re-schedule his trip to Lubbock.

According to what he has told Paulling and others and from what sources tell us, South Carolina is going to have to fight tooth and nail to hold on to the pledge of the 6-foot-5, 230-pound pass rusher. He told Paulling that though he remains a commitment to the Gamecocks that all of the schools on his list are "about even".

Sources familiar with his recruitment say that LSU (primarily) and Georgia are the two biggest competitors for Key and that his relationship with Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward is the primary reason for his verbal pledge to the Gamecocks.

Key's stock has risen significantly during his senior year. He is up to 230 pounds and hasn't lost a step off the edge. Whatever program ends up with him will end up with a player that is closer to seeing the field than perhaps what was once thought.

Key is an Under Armour All-American.

No character whatsoever. Dump him.

A mans word is his bond. I know mine is. That kid hasnt got a clue what a commitment is. Hes just been using us to cement a spot in our class while he shops around for what he thinks is a better offer. Lets see what you have to say after hes jilted us for the final time. In either case, dump I say.

While I certainly respect your view about keeping your word, at the same time, he is a kid who really hasn't found his way yet. (As are most teenagers.) I can understand "holding a spot" while shopping around as college football schollies is getting to be  a cutthroat business. A "let me wait and see" attitude could end up leaving a kid out in the cold. There should be some type of path these kids can follow without pressure so when they give their word, it is done. Besides, he probably still doesn't know who he wants to take to his prom. How could we possibly think he is unwavering when it comes to choosing a college which affects his future. Just presenting the other side of a coin for thought.

TALENT.

That is why you recruit Arden Key, not "his word".  Talent is what we lacked this year on the Dline, and it's why we're 6-6 and not 9-3.

If we listened to your evaluations of players we'd be 5-7 every year and you'd be b*tching about how Spurrier doesn't have it anymore.

Does the kid need to grow up? Sounds like it.  But at 18 you and I had a lot of growing up to do too.
