*** Big 12/SEC Challenge #1/1 USC WBB (8-0) vs. Kansas State (7-1) Game Thread ***

I am assuming Cordozo is the heir apparent to Boston.

The Cuse transfer should be a good one for us in the future.

The 4th quarter wasn't much to speak of......Dawn emptied the bench up 30 pts at the 6:25 mark, and the reserves couldn't do much offensively. Got out-scored 15-6 the rest of the way.

Boston led the way with 21 pts on 9-11 shooting, with 17 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists. Amihere had the 11 pts on 4-8 shooting in 27 minutes, with 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks, and 1 steal. A very strong game for her. Cardoso also scored 11 pts on 4-11 shooting, with 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 1 steal. Cooke and Saxton added 6 pts each, although Cooke had a hard night shooting, only going 1-9 with the one make being a 3-ptr.

So it was the bigs who dominated tonight's game: 43 pts, 34 rebounds, and 13 blocks between the three!!!

Yes. she has tremendous upside. She can be a little too laid back at times on the court - she can be scoring much more than she has thus far, but she's also a strong passer nd loves to pass off to Boston or Amihere for assists.....

Zia only 3 points away from 1000.

Hopefully she gets out of the scoring slump against the Terps.

That also was my perception of LA when she first got here:  A laid back young player who wanted to hang out on the perimeter and just make her shots.

The injuries to Johnson and Henderson are unfortunate, but we still have the possibility of a taller backcourt with Cooke and Amihere very similar Allisha Gray and Kaela Davis during the first NC run several years ago:  A slashing Cooke with LA dishing out the assists.

We got the Terps, the Dukies, and the reigning NC Stanford Cardinal the next 3 games.  Those will be a good trial by fire for our backcourt, whoever is in the rotation during this period.

I think the #1 recruiting class in the nation can handle it.

Having Amihere in the starting lineup really makes the team a looong one. Boston, Amihere, and Saxton are a formidable front court (even though Amihere technically isn't in a frontcourt role here), and at one time in the 1st period Boston, Cardoso, and Amihere were all in the lineup on the court. As expected from this, thre Gamecocks are leading the rebounding 16-11 after one period.

This game features a match-up of top Centers in WCBB this season - our Boston against Kansas St.'s Ayoka Lee, a 6-5 Post. Thus far in the 1st qtr., Boston has 4 pts and 6 rebounds, to Lee's 5 pts and 3 boards.....
I shutter every time LA gets the ball and starts dribbling it though.

Yeah, that was my same memories from last year, where she would make a strong, dribble drive to the basket and then just run over any off-ball help.  My guess is she probably led the team in charges.  This year, she has been much better.  Against KState, she actually had some great drives to the basket and then some really nice passes to Boston when the D slid over to stop her drives.  If she can continue to avoid those charges, she could be really good for us this year.  I thought she had her best game as a Gamecock yesterday, but overall I like the progress she has made this year.

Yeah she is/was prone to committing a lot of travel violations as well.  She's definitely getting better though.  I didn't get to see the K State game, do you know if it's available on line anywhere?
