Bobby Bentley confirms offer to join Auburn coaching staff (UPDATED)
Byrnes High School offensive coordinator Bobby Bentley confirmed to SportsTalk that he has been offered a job on the Auburn staff by new Tigers coach Gus Malzahn. He said Malzahn would like him to join the offensive staff and coach the team’s quarterbacks.
Bentley has not accepted to position yet and said he has some things to think about. One of the things on Bentley’s mind is his old head coaching job at Byrnes. That position is open again since Chris Miller leaving Friday to take over at Spartanburg High School. Bentley could return to the Rebels helm and have the opportunity to reclaim full control of the program he build into a national power and coach his son who is entering high school and plays quarterback.
In addition to building the Byrnes program, Bentley also had a short stent as the head coach at Presbyterian College.
UPDATE: Bobby Bentley issued a statement saying he is not going to Auburn:
I am committed to District 5 and Byrnes. I have not taken a job at any other school and will be coaching at Byrnes.
