Conway receiver sets official visit to Clemson
Edwards says Gamecocks ‘still very high on my list’
Georgia also seeking official visit from prospect

South Carolina has lost a key piece of its 2016 recruiting class.

Conway wide receiver Bryan Edwards decommitted from the Gamecocks on Thursday morning. The four-star prospect was one of the highest-rated recruits in USC’s class.

“After giving it a lot of thought, I have decided to reconsider my commitment to South Carolina,” Edwards said in a statement. “I plan to visit a few other schools. South Carolina is still very high on my list.”

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Edwards is the third player to break his pledge to USC since Steve Spurrier resigned, following linebacker P.J. Blue and defensive back Marlon Character. The decision leaves USC with 15 commitments in the 2016 class.

Edwards will take an official to Clemson this weekend, according to his high school coach, Chuck Jordan.

The question marks surrounding South Carolina’s staff played a big role in Edwards’ decision to look around, Jordan said.

“I know that Bryan is taking an official visit to Clemson this weekend,” Jordan said. “I think one of the reasons that he is considering Clemson and taking that official visit is simply not knowing what the staff may be. Obviously he’s kind of revisiting that option but still very interested in Carolina.”

Georgia called Thursday morning and would also like Edwards to take an official visit there, Jordan said.

Edwards is the third best player in South Carolina, according 247Sports. He has also been selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl but will be unable to play because of a knee injury. He committed to USC in March.

“Clemson offered a long time ago and then there was some question about not having anything available, but they’ve come back to tell him they’ve got some things worked out,” Jordan said. “It was around the time Spurrier resigned. He has informed me he is going to try to do something in December. I think he’d love to get it out of the way. He’s just opening some options up.”

Bleeding won't stop until we have our man in place. I expected this would happen. Recruits just wanting to know who will run the show. The thing I hate worse is Clemson has jump on all  three decommits the past few weeks.
