I said two years ago when they made the hire ...that it was a mistake. I still think so. Chad Morris’ offensive philosophy is opposite of Clemson’s fan base expectations AND their history. Clemson fans do not want to see a finesse team. They long for the Danny Ford days of physical football….and I don’t think they are wrong.

Clemson’s namby pamby offense will NEVER sit well with the brethren base….Also, that style offense inherently lends itself to a poor defense. You can’t recruit big physical offensive and defensive linemen…b/c they can’t play at that pace.. ...have you ever seen a big strong distance runner??? That’s because they don’t exist…

.

All of the wide open face pace offenses have trouble with big strong ball control teams…i.e. South Carolina…LSU…Alabama…etc..just ask Oregon…

The only reason Auburn was able to win the NC was because they had the best player in the history of college football….It won’t happen again…

These offenses are even now losing popularity….

Football always has been and always will be about BLOCKING AND TACKLING….unless they continue to SIGNIFICANTLY change the rules…This offense is a FAD…it will subside into something like the triple option….and be used by teams seeking an equalizer ....that’s all. It will become an anomaly ....“odd”.....nothing more.

Balanced offense and good defense will always be preferable…The Chad Morris / Gus Malzan offenses lend themselves to significant flaws..that are exposed by balanced physical football teams.
