Clayton White is our new DC

Beamer is like a breath of fresh air. He is hiring new talent that will try to make their place in the coaching "ranks" rather than live on their reputations. It takes hard work to climb the ladder and to succeed. I hope that all these "new blood" hires really want to build a program rather than maintain one.

I am assuming Frank would mentor Shane if needed rather than Shane hiring a more older and experienced staff.

Joe Morrison came to us from New Mexico, but I believe he and his core staff were already used to working together when they came here.  Hiring Chadwell and, we could assume most of his staff, would have been very similar to that.

Folks have said that Morrison was like the leader of a rock band that was able to manage the personalities and his staff basically failed after he died.

My sense is Shane has the same talent with the egos.

Win the hiring game with the assistants, then they win the recruiting game with the players and the players win games.  Hopefully that's the way it goes with Shane and his staff.

Could Roger come over to the good guys? Sure could use him here.

Roger Cray he was a 4 year starter at WKU under Clayton White and was graded as one of the top DBs in the conference the past two seasons his name along with a couple other DBs from WKU are currently in the portal

I think there are probably at least two ways to look at CSB's hires so far:

1). He lacks the cachet or budget to pull in big name talent, OR

2). He is confident enough in evaluating talent, and in his plan for constructing his first staff, that he doesn't need the "safety net" of only hiring "names"

I'm going to choose to give him the benefit of the doubt and go with option 2.  I do think there is a tendency within the SEC to discredit all other conferences and levels as inferior and hence you do get a select number of individuals recycling from school to school. I'm really hoping for some innovation in the next few years.   I think as long as we continue to run the same offensive and defensive schemes as other SEC schools we are going to continue to be outrecruited for the top talent to fill those particular schemes. And as long as we consistently finish in the bottom third of the SEC in recruiting, we are not going to be competing for championships running those same schemes as schools with greater talent.  Time to try something different, and maybe that starts with a "different" coaching staff.

Great post, Furman.

Muschamp went with worked for Georgia back in the nineties - but he never had Georgia's talent level, Florida was even better than Georgia in nineties, but Spurrier was smart enough to do something different when his nineties offense was not working.

I am not asking for a lot - just getting into this century would be a step up. But with the age of his assistants, I think he is going for more current that that - he is going to put in what works NOW.
Agreed... totally different way of thinking... I believe it will pay off sooner than later
