COLUMBIA — – University of South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney walked to practice in street clothes with a trainer about an hour after the beginning of the session.

The sophomore also did not participate in practice on Monday due to an injured foot that has been bothering him for several weeks. He continues to wear a protective boot during the week.

“It something he is going to have to deal with until the end of the season,” said USC defensive line coach Brad Lawing. “It is no better or worse than it has been. It is something he is playing through.”

USC quarterback Connor Shaw missed Monday’s practice with a lingering foot injury that was re-aggravated late in the Arkansas game. He returned to practice on Tuesday.

• With 35 wins the USC senior class has already won more games the any other graduating class in Gamecocks history. That came as a point of pride to several of the players.

“I think it means we are the best recruiting class in school history,” said Gamecock senior quarterback Akeem Auguste. “The only problem is next year’s class will probably break it.”

• As several senior players were reminiscing about their time at USC, many point out former Greenwood High School standout D. J. Swearinger as one of the pranksters off the field.

“There are a lot of crazy guys on defense,” said center T. J. Johnson. “D. J. may be the craziest. Those defensive guys are a lot of fun to hang around.”

He said the team is infamous for giving players fake game balls on the bulletin board, most for bad play.

“When I had that bad snap that went over Connor’s head (at Kentucky), I got a game ball,” chuckled Johnson.

On one occasion Swearinger’s pit bull dog, Blooh (pronounced Blue) was given a game ball by the team.

“He is a blue pit bull, so I always tell people I have a dog named Blooh,” said Swearinger. “I just changed the spelling to have a little fun with it.”

• D. J. Swearinger wears a gold grill on over his bottom teeth during games.

“I wear my gold teeth during games,” said Swearinger. “That is just sort of the JungleBoi image (Swearinger’s twitter handle is @JungleBoi_Swagg), you could say. During the games I just want to feel free and feel good. I just put the gold teeth in my mouth. I like talking a lot of trash out there so when I talk trash, I like to have my gold teeth showing.”

• After congratulating Wofford on claiming a piece of the 2012 Southern Conference title, Spurrier pointed out an interesting coincidence between his team and Terriers.

“It is sort of interesting,” said Spurrier. “We are going into our 11th game of the season, and we’re playing a team with the exact same record we have. They are 8-2 overall and 6-2 in their conference. Six and two in their conference got them to be conference champs. Six and two got us third place in the Eastern Division. Some 6-2s are better than other 6-2s, but that is the way it works out.”
