You're probably right, but his dad was also struggling at VT as well at that time and it probably didn't take much to convince Shane to come help out dear ole dad.One thing that jumped out at me yesterday I think shows me that he wanted to be here one day when he was planning 10 years ago. He said he told his wife if he ever wanted to come back here as a head coach they needed to leave and go to VT. I think that he realized that wheels were coming up the Spurrier bus. When you have a 5* on campus and Spurrier does not even know who he is, the writing is on the wall. Beamer probably realized he needed to leave while things were at their peak and he would not be tainted by the last years of Spurrier's coaching. He strategically attached himself to the best years the program has ever seen and got out before it went south. He may may a hell of a hedge fund manager if coaching does not work out lol. To have that kind of long term picture tells me he is a smart guy and hopefully he makes good strategic decisions with our program.
