Gamecocks move quickly to replace coach swiped by Gators
Earlier today, we noted that Florida had officially announced the hiring of long-time South Carolina assistant Brad Lawing.
A short time later, the Gamecocks released an announcement of their own, confirming that Deke Adams has been hired to replace Lawing. Adams will take over as Steve Spurrier‘s defensive line coach.
“We are thrilled to have Deke Adams come in as our defensive line coach,” the OBC said in a statement. “Several of our coaches are very familiar with Deke, having coached with him previously. He has an excellent track record both as a player and as an assistant coach. He has a lot of experience coaching the defensive line, and in recruiting the state of North Carolina and other parts of the South. He and his family will be an excellent addition to our coaching staff.”
Adams was Larry Fedora‘s line coach for three seasons at Southern Miss, and followed Fedora to North Carolina in 2012. Other than a one-year stint at Louisiana-Monroe, those four seasons are Adams’ only coaching experience at the FBS level.
“I’m excited about getting to Columbia and the opportunity to coach with Coach Spurrier and (defensive coordinator Lorenzo) Ward,” said Adams. “I’ve known about South Carolina for a long time and it’s a great opportunity for me and my family.”
