(Coaches search update for December 3rd Is Napier in play? Could it be move over Beamer?)

Napier ain't Dabo and none of Dabo's other current or former ACs are, either.
I am not sure where you are going with this King.  Are you saying that we should not hire Napier because he once coached at Clemson and lost to the best teams we ever fielded?  I think what LBC is saying is that Spurrier owned Dabo as well so the logic should apply the same.

He's not worth $5M.  Nobody is right now.

Got ya.  I am not sure where that number is coming from if it is just speculation.  The narrative seems to have changed to more about money spent on the overall program and not so much about his individual salary.  I will be curious to see what the outcome is in the next week or so.  If they want to create some buzz, having an announcement Saturday night would be a prime to to get all the networks talking, but I don't think that will happen.

I'm hoping the rumored package disagreement is over adding staff members of paying for top notch coordinators, and not because he won't take less than $5 million for himself.  I'm much more comfortable with Napier fighting for more money for his staff or to "improve" the organizational structure.  I remember, favorably, Spurrier taking a large raises given to him by the board and allocating the increase to be his staff instead.  If it's just about his salary needs, that just seems a little narcissistic to me. That would be an absurd percentage increase over what he is making currently.  That type of salary jump (600%, I believe he is making somewhere around $850K currently) just doesn't happen in the "real" world, even for moving to a new job with an increase in scope or responsibility -- I'm not sure why we allow this to exist in sports.

I guess I'm just optimistic enough to hope that the SC position has some kind of appeal or attraction other than just a fat payday.

I agree to an extent. We are in a league which is about to double its income with a pending TV deal. If he comes in an gets us to Be competitive with Clemson each year, anSEC Championship and in the Playoff discussion, the hell yeah, his next contract give him $10 Million.

i think it would be reckless to give him (or anyone) $5 million to come here. If we do that then we cannot afford to fire him if he does terrible.
