I thought about training for this last year but just never got in enough practice to go try 3.1 miles. I only made a couple 1 mile runs when I was training.
Back in July I turned 60. I have not done much running at all this past year. Sadly, I am also well overweight. 280#.
I have decided I am going to do it this year. I will go start training this Saturday. I will start easy. Maybe 3/4 of a mile. I have a 3/8-mile track at a park here. 2 laps are 3/4 mile. I will just run it 3-4 days a week and keep adding extra laps when I feel okay. Hopefully be doing 2.25 by the end of Feb. Then do 3 by Mar. 15th.

Can I run 3 miles anymore? Who knows. A lot of friends did not think I could do a whole marathon, but I did that in 2020. I just got to start training and diet again. Losing weight will make it a lot easier to get back to running like I used to run. I was 220# when I did the marathon. If I get back to 240#, 3.1 should be no problem.

I will post on here how I am doing.

It would be awesome if any of you were planning to run it. I would like to meet and maybe run part of the way with you. I am kind of slow so I would not want to hold you up. I used to only average about 10:00 min miles. Not sure what my speed may be down to now.

Please reply if you are thinking of doing this one.
BYW, the idea of finishing right there on the field at Willy B sounds wonderful.

Good job, the hardest part is always the starting back. You can do this, keep us posted.

Congrats on starting the journey, AGF! Please use this thread to keep yourself motivated/accountable. Would love to hear about your continued progress.

I decided to add another step to my training. I bought a really nice Golf bag pushcart. A couple of my friends and I are going to meet tomorrow afternoon to play 9 holes. Well, I am going to actually walk it this time. It is a very hilly course so it should be great exercise walking nine holes. and I will have to walk fast to keep up with them on the golf cart.
I am also scheduled for 18 Saturday morning, but I do not think I want to walk 18 yet.

My brother told me to leave the pushcart at home and just carry my bag 18.
Unless someone ask me to caddy for them at the Masters that is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Speaking of golf, the last time I went I shot a 68. So, I did not even have to play the back nine.
If they charged by the number of strokes, I always manage to get my money's worth playing golf. And I always pick up the ball if I get up to triple bogey. No reason to spend more time than that on one hole and make the people behind us get mad.

Being up to a mile this soon in your training is awesome! Great job and keep it up!

Walking the hills on the golf course can only help. I don't run (last time I did was 2016), but I'll go to the gym and put the treadmill on an 8-10% incline. I, too, am overweight and that's helping me drop some. Maybe if I can get another 5-10 pounds off I'll try running again.

After doing the mile Tuesday it was great to do it again today. I was slower today but I still ran a mile without stopping.
Looking at the weather forecast, I may miss the golf tomorrow. Might run again Saturday. Every other day is a lot but I really feel good tonight. No pain like Tuesday night.

I enjoyed walking those 9 holes at the golf course. Never really noticed how far it is between some of them holes. There would be 2 or 3 back-to-back, and then a really long walk. And with all the hills, I felt it.
Been swamped with other stuff this past 2 weeks. Plan to get back at it on Saturday. 65 days left. I am going to do another mile on a flat track and extend the distance to 1-1/2 next week.
